A fast-paced, great adventure. The author has a great turn of phrase and makes Mexico come alive on the page. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I found this book much different in literary value then "The Kabul Beauty School". Where as that book, a New York Times Bestseller, had a positive and well written and educational slant, this book feels more like a Harlequin pose. The bouncing back and forth between time frames is many times a good approach in books, however in this book it seemed to reveal more of a trash-talking and back-handed compliment of people who appeared to help the author out. This is a disturbing trend in all three books, i.e. bad male relationship decisions to get assistance wherever she is that the time. The literary quality has definitely changed over the three books and is very unfortunate making this book not a very positive and uplifting read. Due to the lack of character development that caused me to loose interest easily, I found it difficult to nearly impossible to get through the entire book.
