In the first novel, Native Lands, the story alternates between two time frames: 1760, where we meet Locka—son of a native tribe in Florida, who suffers the loss of his wife and finds himself attracted to the beautiful Mali—and the present, where we meet Emily Booth, the mother of a difficult teen and the wife of a political candidate Daniel, and the columnist Barbara Evans, who writes about environmental issues. In both time frames, the author bases her writing on in-depth research to create detailed, convincing realities in a manner that highlights the contrasts between past and present. Five stars.

“Native Lands” by P.C. Zick is a great read about the battle of money power and nature. Zick is a journalist who writes about nature and her love for nature. This book is one of the books you would like to read if you like nature and historical fictions. The story is based in Florida, and is jumping in time (I truly love these kind of books..), Present and the late 18th Century, the Spanish invasion, British too, which took a toll of native people lives and nature. Zick captures the momentum and makes you feel like you are actually touring the places, meeting the fascinating people of the past, and also the presents. What is happening in the Glades, Past and present? The tension is there in every step: Love, life, murder and, compassion verses personal needs and selfishness. Everything that has to do with nature and human nature you will find in the touching story. I highly recommend!

4.5 Stars ***I received this book as part of a Blog Tour for the Release Tour*** This is a book that is both a great Suspense story and a trip into the history of the Native tribes of The Everglades, I really enjoyed this book. “Native Lands” by P.C. Zick is a story with a descriptive background and interesting characters, both in the past and the present. This isn't a book you skim though, you will be engrossed as you follow both the Native Timucuans on their journey to find a place where they can survive the onslaught of the Spanish and English Colonization. The other Storyline is set in present day which follows the lives of the a Journalist, Local fishermen, descendents of the Timucuans and Environmental Supporters and the residents of 2 areas in Florida, The plot is very clever in giving you 2 separate towns where Environmental issues are occurring and the corrupt towns officials and shady developers are doing their best to keep the Media and Environmentalists in the dark. There are secrets, plot twists, murder and more entwined in a gripping tale of Global Corporate Greed and the small town hero's who are trying to uncover what the heck is happening in the 'Glades'. The way the Author has melded the Past and the Present in this book has been done so that the reader can read and learn without getting lost, the book certainly gives the reader pause for thought as we madly rush into the future, plowing into Nature with a disregard of what the destruction will hold for the future, without being preachy. If you want a story that you will not want to put down, and when you have finished, you want to know more - then get this book.
