Comic collection based on a Scottish fairy tale. Not bad but... Sibylla is destined to become the wife of the Black Bull of Norroway and this series depicts her journey and the characters and dilemma that she encounters. The story does not end here and there is more to come. The artwork is nicely executed, colourful and clear but the dialogue can be stilted which spoils things a bit. It’s good but nothing particularly special.

A story about a young girl who seeks adventure, The Black Bull of Norroway takes us on a journey with magic and prophecies, and unyielding bulls and trouble-making crows. Sibylla’s dream of finding the beloved who would come for her and whom she would help in breaking a prophecy are shattered when an actual literal bull comes at her doorstep. Still, she goes along because she thinks she has a purpose, even if he is uncooperative, and the others they meet along the way are just as deflective when it comes to the specifics of the curse she is supposed to break. The artwork of the story is okay, awesome in some parts but average in others. The character design in inspired, though, and I love the fact that the story is inclusive and allowed for characters of color, characters with prosthetics and non-binary characters in the story. It weaves in the fairytale charm with hints of humor, and Sibylla’s young age comes across in the tantrums she throws or how the others usually underestimate her. Finally, though, she assumes a more active role in all of it, but there’s still more of the story to come, so let’s see how it all goes. For now, it was an interesting start.
