A Murder Mystery with Many Twists -- Having read her earlier book, Secrets of a Massage Therapist, I was looking forward to reading Andy Vogt’s next book. And I was pleasantly rewarded for my wait. Path to Murder is an intriguing murder mystery/romance novel that keeps the reader on her toes, wanting to know more. It starts out in the present, a woman wondering where she is and how she got there. Then suddenly the scene changes to a different woman who is lamenting a lost love, contemplating a career change, and seeking solace and a break from her routine. Vogt intricately intertwines the lives of these two women, Sophie and Angie, as the reader learns who they are and how their lives are connected. The story is told back and forth through the eyes of Sophie, a self-serving and vindictive woman bordering on being schizophrenic, and Angie, a young and vibrant woman who, it turns out, chose a very interesting small town for her vacation away from all her problems at home. Sophie’s antics throughout the book are very disturbing, so Vogt throws in a few very humorous flashbacks from Angie’s life to lighten up the mood as the reader follows the lives and thoughts of these two women. Many people are suspects in Sophie’s death. The culprit is not revealed until the very end, as the reader finds herself glued to the page. Angie’s path was left open at the end of the book, leading one to believe that there will be even more unforeseen adventures for her in the future. And I am sure Andy Vogt will not disappoint. For those readers who want to know more about Angie, I would highly recommend reading Secrets of a Massage Therapist.
