Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles! by Brigitte Brulz is the story of a young boy who likes pickles. He is curious to know if pickles grow on pickle trees. He plants the seeds he has bought with his mother when they went out. They water the garden and pull out all the weeds, but there are no signs of pickles growing in the garden. He wonders what kind of pickles will grow in the garden – dill pickles or bread and butter pickles. Soon little flowers bloom and little pickles grow to bigger pickles. There are lots of pickles to pick and finally he picks them all with his mother. He takes a bite from the freshly picked pickle and realizes that they do not taste like pickles. His mother tells him that they grew cucumbers and not pickles. He helps his mother to make pickles with the cucumbers. Now he has pickles to enjoy with his burgers, brats, and hot dogs. The story gives tips on the entire process of pickle making and makes it enjoyable for readers. The illustrations are charming and they give action and movement to the story. The story is informative to young readers and they get to know how to transform seeds into pickles. It is a good bedtime storybook and teachers and educators can use it for classroom read aloud sessions so that children learn the process of pickle making. It is an informative and educational book for all children and is a must-have in all school and children’s libraries.
