About the Author

Jim Gomes graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor and taught for over 35 years with the Greater Essex County District School Board in Southwestern Ontario. A master teacher of Grade 9 mathematics, Jim established a highly successful peer-tutoring program. Throughout his career, he also served as a mentor to new teachers. His influence and love of teaching reached beyond the classroom and into his own family. Inspired by their father, Jim’s three children have all become teachers.

Beyond the classroom, Jim distinguished himself as a dedicated coach of over 50 school and community sports teams. He coached boys and girls from ages 5 to 18 in a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball, baseball, and track and field.

In 2014, Jim founded J-Go LEARN, an educational resource company with the express goal of maximizing teacher effectiveness and student learning.

An avid traveller, Jim and his wife Pam enjoy hiking in wilderness areas of national parks in Canada and the United States.
