I always love a visit to Indian Lake – such a charming town with great characters! This latest installment adds a camp director with a big heart and the swoony firefighter who rescues her in more ways than one. This book grabbed my attention right from the beginning, with a raging forest fire headed straight for Beatrice’s camp for kids & two of the little boys out in the middle of the danger. Beatrice is extremely brave and courageous when it comes to her camp kids (though perhaps not matters of the heart), as is Rand who heads in after her and the boys. Those little boys – Chris and Eli – totally captured my heart, as did all the kids at Beatrice’s beloved camp, but especially these two. Their background is traumatic and their future looks bleak, without divine intervention. And yet their little hearts have so much love to give and receive. Watching their journey through the book was even more enjoyable to me than the romance – and that’s saying a lot! Speaking of the romance, though, Rand and Beatrice’s first kiss completely melted me – and it’s not even a typical kiss. I won’t say more because you need to read it for yourself, except to say that it was such a emotionally charged moment and so well-written that it was tangible. Bottom Line: A sweet story that fits in perfectly with the Indian Lake universe, Rescued by the Firefighter reminds us of the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds. Layered characters that are genuinely likable, a charming setting, and great romantic tension – all of these elements make this a great choice for a cozy weekend read! Rescuing hearts Hmm. What to say? A handsome firefighter who rescues the damsel in distress. Sounds like a fairy tale, right? Well, maybe. However, despite the valiant rescue that introduced the story, things really began to heat up as Rand made choices that Beatrice took personally. Beatrice has a heart of gold. Because she experienced neglect in her childhood, she was determined to show love to as many children as came into her path. When the aftermath of the fire threatens her camp, she is furious with the one bringing the trouble into her life. Rand. The only problem is that she has trouble fighting her attraction to him. Rand is such a rule-follower – for good reason. The one time he wasn’t, it cost a man his life. So despite the fact that he risks his own life on a regular basis, he isn’t willing to risk bending the rules. If that means reporting that the camp doesn’t meet fire regulations, so be it. I enjoyed how he wasn’t willing to just leave Beatrice hanging, though, and jumped in to help her as much as he could. And the way he dealt with Eli and Chris was heartwarming. This is a fun, sweet story. Though there is a dramatic rescue at the onset, it is not a suspenseful or action-filled story, it is more about the relationship between the main characters. Such a touching story! With a return visit to Shores of Indian Lake, we see lots of the old regulars and meet some news ones as we embark on a heartwarming story of hope. Bea pledged her life to helping less fortunate kids have an enjoyment they couldn't get elsewhere at her camp. She teaches them their own worth, she shares fun life lessons with them, and most of all, she makes sure each and every one of them knows they are loved. The characters catch our attention from the start and the plot is quick to draw us in. The story is a bit slow in parts and light on the romantic connection somewhat, but the connection with the kids is superb ... overall a really sweet story of love when you least expect it and reaching for it even when it's outside of your comfort zone. Sweet kids, a sexy fireman and a story about reaching for the stars and achieving them! Beatrice Wilcox loves her job running a camp for challenged kids, but some days it's almost more than she can handle. Like the night a fire breaks out and she has to go charging through it to find two missing campers. Luckily for her, a firefighter is in the right place at the right time to rescue them all! Firefighter Rand Nelson is a by the books guy, so when he does his report of what happened that night, he can't sugar coat it. He likes Bea though, and the job she's doing for these kids out there at the camp, so he tries to ease the hardship by helping her with a repair himself. He's instantly drawn to her, but she's holding herself back .. turns out she doesn't like a man that puts himself in danger on a daily basis!
