Overview

Featuring an all-star cast of traditional folk musicians including Eric Weisberg, Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, Tony Trischka, Norman Blake, and John Doan, Song of the Hills is composed of light and airy interpretations of old-time American music. Fiddle, flatpicked guitar, Dobro, and subtle orchestration run through most songs, giving a rich full sound on compositions ranging from spirituals to barn dances. Although the performances are clean and flawless, it is almost a shame to see such brilliant musicians slowed to a rather bland pace. While not for the most die-hard bluegrass and old-timey aficionados, the album is a gentle walk through pleasant versions of these comfortable tunes. ~ Zac Johnson
