Great new, Lovecraftian-style weird tales. Stories range from mystery/horror to modern (and even a little funny) as well as a dark, very-personal-feeling short fantasy story about just leaving the whole world behind. It caps off with a GREAT story about Nikola Tesla. Tying him into the Lovecraftian Mythos is brilliant, imo. Very much recommended.
A haunting collection of stories that are thoroughly Lovecraftian (in the best sense of that word) while still having a unique voice. Two very strong stories bookend the collection: the title story, The Altar in the Hills (a magnificent blend of folk horror and cosmic horror), and the end story, Through the Ether, in which Nikola Tesla experiences a breakthrough into an otherworldly realm. In between those two stories are shorter stories, some of them only a few pages long but still richly developed. I'm looking forward to reading more by Brandon Barrows.
