Louise Potter was the great-granddaughter of the Earl of Priorsbridge. Her grandfather had been celebrated lawyer. But her father was not so skilled in his legal practice and died a drunk. Now orphaned, Louise and her two sisters needed additional income in order to keep their townhouse. Accepting a position with Lady Channing, to be governess to her three boys seems to the best solution. The position is on an estate far to the north and would mean a week of travel. Lady Channing has graciously arranged for Louise to travel with her uncle, Lord Alistair. Travelling with him would mean much more comfortable journey and so Louise prepares to leave. Arriving at the townhouse of Lord Alistair, Louise is shocked to discover the middle-aged man she was expecting is actually young and viral. Lord Alistair in return is shocked to see that the rotund middle-aged woman he had envisioned as the governess was young, beautiful, slim, and with glorious golden curls peeking out from underneath the rim of her bonnet. A Joy To Read This novella was a joy to read from start to finish. I have enjoyed how the author developed their relationship during their travels and found the characters very engaging. It is with eager anticipation that I continue on to the next story in “The Honourable Scoundrels” series, The Earl Who Loved Her. Reviewed for LnkToMi iRead in response to a complimentary copy of the novella provided by the publisher in hopes of an honest review. KriisGaia

I love books that give just the right amount of heat while letting your imagination take flight! The connection between Louise and Alistair was shown right from the start with love at first sight. It was a nice short read without much angst, just 2 people falling in love and trying to figure out how to keep that!

The Governess Who Captured His Heart by Sophie Barnes is the first book in the new series called "The Honorable Scoundrels" This is the story of Louise Potter and Alistair Langley. This is a Novella with almost 90 pages. Louise is the middle sister with Josephine the oldest and Eve the youngest. Although the sisters are descends of an Earl their father wasn't and he had tried his hand at law. Which after the death of his wife nothing seem to work for him and along with his drinking. After he past the sisters were left with just a townhouse and bills. So Louise thought to take a position as a Governess. Louise would have to travel to the location of the job but was assured that she could take the trip with the older Uncle. But that turned out to be Alistair who was anything but old. This was a sweet, quick and really enjoyable story! I can't wait for more in this series.

Louise Potter, age 24, has just been hired as governess for Lady Channing, Countess Radcliffe’s, 3 children at their country home, Whitehaven. Louise and her sisters, Josephine and Eve, inherited their townhouse and Josephine has worked hard to pay their bills. Now, Louise wants this job to help her sisters. The problem is she will be living quite a distance away and won’t see her sisters often. Louise must leave the next day so she will be able to share a carriage with the Countess’s uncle, Lord Alistair Clay Hedgewick, the brother of a Duke and his heir. Louise figures he must be an elderly man to be the lady’s uncle. But when they meet, both are shocked at how young the other is having figured they would both be older. Their shock causes them both to make a derogatory comment about it for which they both later apologize. As their week-long journey commences, Alistair is soon drawn to Louise’s beauty and she enjoys watching his concentration on his newspaper. Getting to know one another, she learns about Whitehaven and the 3 boys she will be caring for. He also tells her how his brother is pressuring him to wed Lady Gwendolyn, sister-in-law to Lady Channing. Soon, they realize that they are of a differing social status and must put their feelings aside. Is there no hope their love? I enjoyed this sweet novella from a terrific author. I hope others read it and smile as I did. Well written, Sophie Barnes. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
