A fascinating and unique, paranormal mystery! The Last Vestal Virgin is a fascinating, adventurous, and unique paranormal mystery where modern reality mingles with ancient Roman history. Full of mystery, suspense, fantasy, and magic, the book is the story of Christina Ciccone—a beautiful and bright young girl with a supernatural secret. Christina is born and raised in the USA, in a strict Italian-American family. She is fascinating by ancient Roman history, and upon graduating from high school, she visits Rome with her history class. Visiting the Eternal City, however, turns out to be more than just an educational trip… In Rome, Christina ends up meeting her destiny.

Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite The Last Vestal Virgin by Lorraine Carey is a contemporary teenage drama with a paranormal and richly historical twist. Drawing on the ancient ways of the Vestal Virgins of Rome, the novels centres on Christina Ciccone and the strange, all-consuming dreams that begin to haunt her life. As her overbearing Italian-American family put all their efforts into convincing Christina that boys and marriage are her next big step, the retiring youngster’s nightmares of ancient places and foreign people push her physical and emotional strength to the limit. It’s only when Christina takes the opportunity to visit Rome on a class trip that the terrifying truth of her nightmares is revealed, and it seems that the past is a lot less in the past than she thought it was. Although there are some faults in the editing of Christina’s speech and inner thoughts, I would encourage any reader to overlook these issues and continue reading, because The Last Vestal Virgin is a tale that truly grows on you, and has a very enjoyable and surprising conclusion. Once I became used to Lorraine Carey’s dialogue-driven style, I found that the pace of the story picked up, especially once the action moved to the great city of Rome. It’s clear to see that the author has drawn on some beautifully vivid memories and historical facts to illustrate Christina’s paranormal adventure, and created a cast filled with engaging additional characters from the present and past to guide us through the tale. Overall, I found it to be a fresh, original read, ideal for lovers of drama, family-oriented tales and historical fiction.

Lorraine Carey takes us on another incredible journey through the world of paranormal mysteries with her newest novella. THE VESTAL VIRGIN. Although the talented educator is writing for the juvenile age group, she has mastered her craft so well that her audience has reached into the secret society of adults reading their teenagers literature. The Vestal Virgin is more than just a paranormal mystery and as in her other books lessons of historical significance are learned. Be assured that your child will not just be reading for pleasure, but will become educated in historical facts that one-day just may come in handy on a history test. The reader follows our young heroin as she learns to deal with not only the social issues of the reality of being a teenager but must deal with issues that are surreal. Is the beautiful teenager Christina going insane? Are they just visions or dreams that she is experiencing or are these things actually happening to her? I promise you an incredible journey and you will be thoroughly submersed in this mystical story of a young girl’s experience. The literary world is lucky to have Lorraine Carey!
