I read this book and barely put it down out of necessity.

This book is one of the best political memoirs I've ever read, and likely will be until Barack Obama writes his own. Ben Rhodes came to politics and government after 9/11 from a background as a writer, and in working as a speechwriter for President Obama as a candidate and spokesman for Obama's National Security Council, he developed a close connection with the President, able to, and expected to, express the president's views accurately and effectively. He is very self-reflective, wondering what effect this had on him as a distinct person, and draws two years of campaigning and the eight years of governing into a real narrative arc that tells a story about the America and the World that he and President Obama experienced, reacted to, and tried to shape over that decade. In the near-term, some people's reactions to this book may be skewed by partisanship, but I think decades down the road, this will be appreciated as the definitive look at the Obama Administration's foreign policy over the full 8 years: what they tried, where they failed, where they succeeded.

Excellent read. Moves quickly and doesn’t get caught up in details or politics.

One of the best books I've ever read. Exactly what I needed to help me cope with this awful Trump administration.

Boring

Sorry but this book really dragged and was just boring about Obama. Nothing new that the press hadn't already covered or he hadn't discussed in his tv interviews. Couldn't make it to the end.
