Overview

Poetry, music, and the joy of conversation—three facets of the same creative universe—come together in this interview from Georges Moustaki to Marc Legras. Moustaki takes us through his youthful aimlessness and the street life of his native Alexandria. Reviving a fascinating period for the reader, Moustaki discusses his relationships with mythical figures such as Édith Piaf, Astor Piazzolla, Jorge Amado, and Elis Regina, all of whom have left an indelible mark on his work.

About the Author

Georges Moustaki developed a passion for philosophy, music, and literature after being immersed in a melting pot of races, religions, and sounds of the cosmopolitan city. He worked many odd jobs before he managed to dedicate himself fully to music. He composed “Milord” for Édith Piaf in 1958, which brought him to prominence in France, and later reaccelerated his career with the composition of “Le Métèque,” his greatest hit.
