Overview

Children are curious and attentive to their surroundings. They observe and have questions even though they may not ask!
The subject of death of a loved one like grandparents should not be a taboo or a hidden event with mysterious disappearance of the person!
Children need to know as much as they can absorb and not more.
This book might be a conversation starter to be used in similar situations.
It is written and illustrated by a pediatrician with special interest in child development and behavior.
All the proceeds of this book will be used to fund Grasp Foundation and its goals! (graspfoundation.org).

CHAPTER 1

I love my grandpa!

He is so funny! With his white hair, eye glasses and all the wrinkles on his face and hands!

I love to go out to walk with him. I can walk faster!

I love his stories. The ones he tells me at night or when we are out walking.

I love his smiles! He never ever frowns at me even if I am not my best.

I love my grandpa! My grandpa loves me!

So where is he today?

I look at his room and he's not there. I look at the TV room. No, he is not there. I sit by the door, waiting. He does not show up.

So I ask my mom: "Where did grandpa go?" Mom is not happy. She does not smile. She is sad.

So I ask my dad: "Where did grandpa go?" Dad is not happy. He does not smile. He is sad.

I am not happy! I am sad and I am mad!

No one knows where grandpa is. Was he mad at me?

So I ask Grandma: "Where did grandpa go?" Grandma is sad too!

But she smiles at me like always and says: "Grandpa is sick. He is at the hospital."

Poof!! I am happy now! I was sick a while back. I was at the hospital and I got well. I came home with presents I got from nurses. So, "When will he come home?"

And grandma says: "He won't come back home."

Why? The Hospital makes him well.

Grandma wipes her tears, hugs me and whispers in my ear, "He is very sick." "He may die."

"Dye?" I ask. Like get his hair black? And grandma smiles and looks into my eyes, "No my love! DIE." "When you die, you are not alive anymore! You are "dead" like you are "all gone!"

Grandpa is "All Gone"? And I cry! With tears like water drops on my face.
