The Great Melting left destruction in its wake. Ice caps melted. Land masses sunk into the rising seas. North America disappeared. Oceans became cesspools of smudge, controlled by the Monstrato Corporation, a tyrannical subcontractor of the government of the island chain of the American Archipelagos. It is a world filled with refugee descendants of long-lost colonists, and warrior ape-men clones created by The Corporation.
Living among the detritus of a world long-gone is Ròna, a twenty-four-year-old water Protector in the Risen Land. When she finds a familiar face in a wounded man, she does what others would deem dangerous. She takes him in, shielding him from the local ‘director’ for the Corporation, a sadistic hunter, bent on expunging the Insurge who seek only to stop the violation their sacred lake, the last pure water on earth.
Although their differences are many, and he’s got a bad reputation, Rona can’t help but fall for Finlay. Soon, their relationship leads to marriage, but that union doesn’t lessen the danger they face. Evil enforcers pursue them with relentless vigor, prepared to strike at every turn.
Is there any hope of survival for them as they travel across dangerous terrain, high into the mountains, desperate for reprieve by any means necessary?
