100 Days of Real Food: How We Did It, What We Learned, and 100 Easy, Wholesome Recipes Your Family Will Love by Lisa Leake

#1 New York Times Bestseller

The creator of the 100 Days of Real Food blog draws from her hugely popular website to offer simple, affordable, family-friendly recipes and practical advice for eliminating processed foods from your family's diet.

Inspired by Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food, Lisa Leake decided her family's eating habits needed an overhaul. She, her husband, and their two small girls pledged to go 100 days without eating highly processed or refined foods—a challenge she opened to readers on her blog.

Now, she shares their story, offering insights and cost-conscious recipes everyone can use to enjoy wholesome natural food—whole grains, fruits and vegetables, seafood, locally raised meats, natural juices, dried fruit, seeds, popcorn, natural honey, and more.

Illustrated with 125 photographs and filled with step-by-step instructions, this hands-on cookbook and guide includes:

  • Advice for navigating the grocery store and making smart purchases
  • Tips for reading ingredient labels
  • 100 quick and easy recipes for such favorites as Homemade Chicken Nuggets, Whole Wheat Pasta with Kale Pesto Cream Sauce, and Cinnamon Glazed Popcorn
  • Meal plans and suggestions for kid-pleasing school lunches, parties, and snacks
  • "Real Food" anecdotes from the Leakes' own experiences
  • A 10-day mini starter-program, and much more.

Just a word to the wise.  If you are a regular follower of the blog, this book isn't going to give you alot of new information.  The 70 "new" recipes that are not already featured on her blog started coming up short.  A hummus sandwhich with bread, pre-made hummus and greens, I would not call a recipe. Oatmeal with one of her reco'd sweetners, again, a recipe? This might be a good read for someone new to real food, but I don't think it was fairly advertised to her blog followers as such.  I give it 1 star specifically because I think her ardant supporters are raising their voices so loudly that regular people like me will just be frustrated for buying something with so little incremental value to her blog.

I have followed Lisa's blog for a few years. I really enjoy it, and have used some of her recipes and tips. However, I returned my cookbook to BN yesterday. I was really excited to go and buy it, but I was very disappointed. To be fair, if you are new to cooking and have never read her blog, this would be a wonderful resource. However, for an experienced cook this book falls flat. The recipes are VERY simple think chicken noodle soup, berry sauce, and popcorn. A lot of the recipes are on the blog, and many others are commonly found recipes where she just replaced the white flour/sugar, etc. It was not worth the money. I don't mind that the first part of the book was basically directly from the blog. I wouldn't expect that part of be anything new. But I did expect new and more original recipes. I will continue to follow them on Facebook and keep up with the blog. I just will not be purchasing any future books from Lisa, and wouldn't recommend this one to anyone who isn't completely new to cooking.

The recipes in the book are basic, and not creative or unique. She actually tells you how to make a sandwich. There are many real food cookbooks that are much better. Save your money for one of them. You can juat read her blog for and get everything you would get out of this book.

This book is beautiful, practical and meaningful, walking readers through the transformation from processed and packaged eating to Real Food. I love the Why aspect as much as the How.

As a registered dietitian, I'm constantly educating the public on how to eat real food. What a breath of fresh air to have someone on board with this concept! Lisa will make a huge difference in many lives through this book. She gives practical advice along with quick, easy, & healthy recipes in this book. She covers feeding a family, how to read ingredient lists, and how to eat real food on a budget. I was planning to do a giveaway with the book it but now I'll have to buy another copy to keep for myself.

I’m a huge fan of Lisa Leake’s blog, so when I heard she was publishing a cookbook I couldn’t wait to check it out! I love cookbooks with lots of photos, and 100 Days of Food includes a drool worthy full page photo of each and every recipe! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in cutting out processed foods and pursuing a real food lifestyle including whole grains, nuts, healthy fats and oils, fresh fruits and veggies and natural sweeteners. Lisa has lots of practical advice for making the change with her 10 day and 100 day pledges.

If I could only use one cookbook forever, this would definitely be it. Literally every recipe I've made from it has been wonderful. Even my picky-eater husband and two kids love this food. Clean eating, delicious food and easy recipes? Yes, please!

As my title suggests, I found this book contains some basic recipes, some are intereting. If you aren't an experienced chef, you may find this book interesting.

Lisa Leake has managed to take the cookbook from so-so to fabulous. This 360-page book is a must-have resource for every kitchen out there. Seriously. Not only does Leake present some amazing recipes, but she seasons the pages with wisdom and more information than a brain can hold in one sitting!

I have waited for Lisa's book for a long time and I am super excited to finally have it in my hands. The pictures are stunning. The recipes are delicious. There is so much practical information in this book. It is so much more than a cookbook. This books offers an entire course in real food shopping, food prep, and label reading. If you buy one book to help with your transition to real food then this should be it! Lisa has helped me take my family from eating fast food 3 times a day to eating real food more than 80% of the time. We haven't seen a fast food burger in over 2 years now and it's all thanks to Lisa's advice and recipes. Not only does she know her stuff, but she is a great cook as well. Many of her recipes are now our family favorites.

The 100 Days of Real Food cookbook is fantastic, as is Lisa's blog. This sounds a little funny but sometimes I feel like Lisa Leake is my real food mom. The same way I would turn to my own parents for homework help, advice, etc. I turn to Lisa and her blog for real food help. She certainly has me more than covered! I ran over to the book store to pick up the cookbook right after school and I tore through the entire thing in two days....yes two days. I feel like I am having a conversation with Lisa while reading the book. She does a great job of the how and why of real food, compelling you to make the switch rather that condemning your for not eating real food already. Her website was the wake-up call I need. After using her advice and resources for over 6 months, I feel 100 times happier and healthier. I am a high school Junior and am currently undertaking 6 IB and 1 AP classes. Let;s just say I don't have much extra time on my hands. Still, I somehow found a way to make SEVEN  of Lisa's recipes yesterday, in a 12 hour span. I made and devoured or froze French Toast, Refried Beans, Slow Cooker Potato Soup, a Hummus Sandwich, Tomato Pie, Peanut Butter Cookies, and Quick Cinnamon Raisin Bread....yum!!! Five of the recipes are included in her AMAZING cookbook. Lisa has allowed me to each so much better and keeps me motivate to try and convince my reluctant parents and sisters to do the same...it's not easy being the only real foodie. The cookbook has magnificent recipes, wonderful pictures, and an amazing author who makes your feel so blessed and cared for. Anyone looking to eat healthier needs to pick up this cookbook immediately. I was going to mark all of the recipes I wanted to try but then I realized I would have to mark all 100 of them. The only thing disappearing faster than the 100 Days of Real Food Cookbook is the recipes off my plate. Thanks Lisa for being such a great real food foodie!

I've been following Lisa's blog for a year and a half now. It completely transformed the way I think about our food and where it comes from. Her first cookbook is exactly what I expected...and that's a good thing! It's full of all the information a 'newbie' needs to learn how to eat real, but also a ton of tips, school lunch ideas, new recipes, and even family dinner conversation starters. What is so great about her book (and blog) is that her "voice" is so relatable to so many people. She grew up eating processed foods like so many of us...yet she was able to transform the way her family eats...and now is transforming the way millions of other families eat! This is a must have book for everyone!
