Chapter One
JUMP - START YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE Given the pace of life during your peak working years, it's understandable that finding time to invest in spiritual things would be difficult. It isn't that your soul isn't longing for greater meaning and purpose; it's just that the tyranny of the urgent seems to always be in the way. Besides, that Bible looks so big and intimidating and time-intensive lying there. And prayer-you want to-but other things tend to take precedence.
It isn't easy-that's for sure-but it is possible to invest in a strong and vibrant spiritual life before you retire. The key is to find a workable plan that leaves little to chance. Simple Bible-reading plans are a wonderful solution. Some Bibles include them and many can even be downloaded from the Internet. Most plans are designed to cover only one or two chapters a day-in most cases that amounts to less than 10 minutes of reading time. Even if you cover just one chapter a day, you'll work your way through the entire Bible in less than three years.
Bible reading is a great way to invest in life after retirement, but it has very practical applications for life before retirement as well. Within its pages, you can learn how to handle conflict, manage people, live a life of integrity, and much more. The Bible also offers direction regarding prayer. It teaches how to relate toGod, how to tap in to His wisdom and insight, and how to surrender your burdens and cares for a more peaceful life.
Don't let the daily hustle and bustle keep you from making your spiritual life a priority. It's the only investment you can make that extends into retirement and beyond to life after life, enriching and enlightening along the way.
