13 Years is a wonderful story of hope and the search for happiness. It starts out as a coming of age story, where a young woman from Canada tries to find her place in a new country and a new marriage. It quickly takes a turn, however, into an exploration of the meaning of success and a deep, emotional search for the meaning of happiness. The struggles the couple faces over their 13year story are many. But they maintain a positive attitude through it all, and that is an important life lesson. They are happier as a result than most people I know. Worth reading for that insight alone. It’s a good read, through and through. I stayed up late reading when I should have been sleeping, and I cried when it was over. Highly recommended!

This left a slightly bad taste in my mouth. It felt a bit like the author was writing a passive aggressive "f#@! you" to those she felt wronged/mistreated her. It genuinely read like journal entries she edited into a novel... and often seemed condescending and repetitive. She has some wonderful, thoughtful moments that might resonate with a lot of readers (myself included). Overall: When I completed the book my S.O. asked me "how was it?" My response was "not great".

This powerful memoir is brutally honest and heart-wrenching, while the social commentary is super-charged. Underlying the personal narrative is an unwavering theme of hope, which is really inspiring. As a reader, I found myself hoping desperately for positive changes that would allow the narrator and her beautiful family to realize their dreams. At the same time, I found myself wishing the same for us all. This beautiful story is enjoyable to read and carries an important message that sticks with you. Highly recommended!

This is a relaxed, easy read and good that the character finally sees what brings true happiness, but it is sad that it took her so long.

This book was awesome! I can't quite figure out what intrigued me so much, but something wouldn't let me put it down. Being about 545 pages, free books like this are a great find. I would recommend this book.

I enjoyed the book very much- enough to write to the author to tell her so. Even though her 13 years were recent, and from a country that is close to the US; there are considerable differences in the way life is lived. I know having come from another country. Embracing it, and accepting the changes is not always easy. She did very well.
