Following the success of the Remastered Beatles Stereo Box Set and the Beatles in Mono last year, it picks up where it left off. The same people, who remastered the entire Beatles catalog, has done it again. This time, the Beatles 1962-1966, also known as the Red album, sounds a lot better and louder than the previous c.d. that was released in 1993. Absent in the remastered version is the James Bond-like intro of "Help" that was included in the vinyl version. When the red album was released as a c.d in 1993, the sound quality was too low and soft to listen. I had to turn the volume up. Now that the Beatles 1962-1966 is remastered, I don't have to worry about turning up the volume.

Let me start this review by laying my cards on the table. I am not a Beatles worshiper; I am a longtime Byrds fan and think they were at least the equal of the Fab Four sonically. I found this set and its sister 1967-1970 album in a slipcase at a trade in shop and paid half price using my credits, so I really didn't invest much in it. So, what is my opinion of 1962-66? What is here is very good, but a bit skimpy. The Beatles were functioning as a group and the unique Lennon-McCartney synergy is evident and Disc 2 shows them at what was probably their peak. However, when this collection was re-released, Apple should have filled it out with bonus tracks to justify its 2 CD format. Adding some covers and tracks from their BBC sessions would have made it a comprehensive overview.

Love listening to this CD. I remember the Beatles coming to the U.S. back in 1964 and have always been a huge fan. For some odd reason, I have never purchased a CD. After see "Just Imagine," the musical play about John Lennon's life and music, I was determined to finally purchase the Beatles' CDs. Yes, it is a terrific CD.

People are either fans of the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, but I come from an era where I liked both groups. This CD is wonderful as it contains all of the greatest hit songs of the Beatles.
