2008 A Garden for All Seasons: Paintings by Anne Marie Graham wall-vertby Anne Marie Graham
Gardens invite contemplation, play, reverie, somnolence, and gentle investigation. In her lyrical oil paintings, based on sketches drawn in Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, Anne Marie Graham (b. 1925) gives us the joy of spring, the spiny beauty of the desert, and the music of bamboo columns flexing against one another. During her childhood in Vienna, Graham studied with Franz Cizek, who was among the first educators to appreciate children's art. The same innocence her mentor prized is still visible in the colorful works Graham is creating seventy years after her emigration to Australia.
