Overview

2014: 1984, 30 Years Later by Derek Tennant

George Orwell wrote 1984 and focused upon Big Brother, government propaganda, surveillance and thought control as being responsible for creating a dysfunctional future. In 2014 we look again into the future, one where control is exerted through debt slavery as America copes with the aftereffects of economic disruptions following a solar flare. Winston Smith, in 2014, finds true love that he is forced to betray as he struggles against the machine of economic tyranny.

About the Author

Derek has considered himself ‘spiritual but not religious’ since his pre-teen years. Recently however, he has learned much about Buddhism and feels that his life has been a constant practice that follows many of the Buddhist teachings. He has always believed in volunteer work, beginning with a Crisis Intervention Hotline and the ‘Free Angela Davis’ committee in the early 1970’s, continuing through a volunteer firefighter career and, most recently, teaching English to Burmese refugee children on the Burma-Thailand border and helping clean-up following hurricanes in Haiti and an EF3 tornado in Arkansas.
