20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection: The Best of Disco
20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection: The Best of Disco is a budget-priced, 12-track compilation that draws from the Universal catalog's deep pool. As with most of the 20th Century Masters series' R&B-rooted compilations, many of the selections were released on Motown. That's the case here with Commodores' "Lady (You Bring Me Up)," the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine," and Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up." This expectedly focuses on disco's more pop-oriented and novelty successes, including the Village People's "In the Navy," Lipps, Inc.'s "Funkytown," and Meco's "Star Wars/Cantina Band." Disco thrived on the 12" format, yet most of the tracks here appear as single edits.
