"30 Days to Understanding the Bible: Unlock the Scriptures in 15 Minutes a Day" is an excellent book to help people that may be struggling with understanding the Bible and what it is all about. Mind you, this book is by no means a tool to make you an expert in all things about the Bible. However, it can be a resource for you to spend around 15 or 20 minutes per day for 30 days and have a very good grasp on the who, what, where and when of the Bible. I would recommend this book to any newer believer or anyone that may not have a solid foundation in understanding the Bible as long as they are wanting to do a "Bible study" type approach as this book has more of a lesson and quiz/question approach through a large portion. Those who already have a solid foundation in the Bible may get a few things out of this but not nearly as much as a beginning student of the Scriptures. To be honest, I really think that this really would be a fantastic resource for a New Believer's class to go through in a group setting that would be more of a classroom-type or Bible study kind of setting. In my mind, that would be an amazing venue for this book for sure in addition as a personal study for any newer believer. Overall, it is very well written and nicely presents an overview of the Bible. There are many repetition activities throughout this book to drive home some level of memorization of the lessons. I received an advanced reader's copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this review and all opinions are my own.

This book is such a wonderful resource! I've always considered myself to be fairly knowledgable in regard to the Bible, but 30 Days to Understanding the Bible has helped me to better understand the timeline(s), how the books are intertwined, and the Bible story has a more holistic image. The workbook style is so helpful when learning and processing all of the important details. Anders does an excellent job teaching the information without it feeling as if you're reading a textbook or lecture notes. Couldn't recommend this more!

I am a lover of reading for pleasure and knowledge and I like to read many different genres in both fiction and non-fiction. I was especially excited to see that a new launch team was being formed for Max Anders’s newly revised book of 30 Days to Understanding the Bible and I realized that this was the perfect opportunity for me to learn more about God's Word. I wasn't wrong and I certainly wasn't disappointed with this 30th anniversary expanded edition! At the beginning the author says "...if you want to understand the Bible, you must first learn how the Bible is put together". In the next 381 pages he shares his extensive knowledge of just how it was put together! He has included seven sections devoted to The Story of the Old Testament--The Story of the New Testament--Ten Great Doctrines of the Bible--NanoSummary of the Bible--How to Master the Bible So Well That the Bible Masters You--Teaching Plan and the added Bonus Chapters. At the end of each section there is a summary and a self-test that allows readers to determine just what they have learned and retained. I was thrilled to learn more about the geography and history of both the Old and New Testaments and I especially liked the NanoSummary of the Bible and the Teaching Plan. Anders has written a book that is both comprehensive and easy to understand and I believe that this will be a wonderful resource for my own personal Bible study and in teaching the teens in our church. I certainly recommend it for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of the Holy Bible. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson but a positive review was not required. These are my honest opinions and I was not financially compensated in any way.

This book is easy to read and understand. It would be a great choice for those new and experienced in reading the Bible. In 15 minutes a day you can really gain insight. I especially liked walking through the Old Testament and getting a basic understanding of geography, etc. We plan to use this book for a small group study in the future. It is by no means a way to replace reading your Bible but it is a great reference. I was gifted this book by the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

30 Days to Understanding the Bible introduces the major people, places, and events of the Bible before briefly describing what Anders believes are the 10 major doctrines that all sub-doctrines fall under. Each chapter takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and involves a short story (usually secular in nature), a brief summary of that day's section of the Bible, and a few pages of fill-in-the-blank memory work. The memory work seemed extreme and tedious for my learning style. I wish the book omitted the many short stories and instead used the space to expand more on the Holy Spirit's role in understanding the Scriptures along with more discussion on faith and salvation. Overall, if you're a busy person who wants to quickly learn and memorize the prominent people, places, and events of the Bible, then this book is for you. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

When I received this book, I was over whelmed by the size( 400 pages). Once I started reading and filling in the the blanks I did not want to wait until the next day to keep going! I learned so much and was/am able to remember what I have been taught each day. This is a 30 day plan, you can take longer, but you will not want to! I wish I had picked up this book years ago! Repetition is key to learning. Each day you fill in the blanks of what was learned the day before. EASY! I would recommend this book to new/experienced and just curious readers that want to know what the Bible is all about. Nothing preachy, just a pure history of the Bible. I received this book as a gift. This review is given without compensation.

FANTASTIC RESOURCE TOOL! 30 Days to Understanding the Bible (30th Anniversary Expanded Edition) by Max Anders lives up to its promise of unlocking the Scriptures in 15 minutes a day. I’ve been a Christian for 51 years, a graduate of a Theological Seminary and have taught some type of Bible Study or Sunday School for 40+ years and I wish I had been introduced to this marvelous book 30 years ago when it was first written! I’m thankful I was able to discover it now so I can share it with everyone I know! It is the best resource I’ve found to be an easy to use, straightforward guide to understanding the Scripture. As you do the 15 minute readings each day, there is always a review involving a way to make sure you don’t forget what you’ve learned. He also teaches you the locations of where events took place. You learn to plot them as you learn about them. He gives great illustrations such as comparing a map of the Old Testament to a Map of Texas. Some of the features included are The Arc of Bible History which help you visualize the Bible’s overarching themes. That’s one of my personal favorite things of all! Also included is The Story of the Bible which summarizes Genesis through Revelations in just a few pages and covers the core beliefs of the Christian faith. There is a 13 week Teaching Plan included and Bonus Content. If you go to 30DaystoUnderstandingtheBible.com you will find all manner of extra resources to help you even more! I was provided an ARC of this book by Thomas Nelson Publisher. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

30 Days to Understanding the Bible, by Max Anders, is the 30th-anniversary reprint of a wonderful resource for a fairly quick and yet insightful overview of the Bible. The book is laid out into 30 chapters within 3 sections, intending that each chapter, in a workbook-like format, is a daily read, with a self-check quiz at the end to reinforce the given knowledge. I definitely like the self-check quizzes as one learns better using a number of senses so not just reading but writing out answers helps me to learn the information. Embedded in the text are tables, timelines, charts, and maps that help clarify the information. The third section of chapters cover 10 great doctrines of the Bible and speak to things such as the Holy Spirit, Christ, Angels, Sin, and Salvation, to name a few. These are presented from a conservative point of view, are scripture based and with down-to-earth examples. Such as his reference to sin-- Anders comments we humans are a bit like pigs! "The smell of sin doesn't seem so bad to us. We don't even notice it a lot. But to God, it smells like a thousand pigs were kept in His living room for the winter." Or another example of helping to clarify: "Look at the state of Texas on a map and imagine the city of Dallas beginning to move on the map, and you get an idea of the magnitude of the exodus." There are bonus chapters at the end of the book that cover several other related subjects such as the Parables, the Miracles and the Resurrection of Jesus as well as a comparison of the four gospels and the different literary forms in the Bible. Included also is a Teaching Plan for those individuals who would choose to use the book in a Bible study setting or as a resource for mentoring new believers. The book is concise and yet is full of geographical, historical and character related information and puts the Bible into a framework that new believers and even those well-versed in the Bible, can understand the full overview of God's Word and Christian theology. This is a book I will definitely be recommending when people ask me about a resource to learn about the Bible. I received an advance copy of the book from the publisher and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

A good friend gave me the original edition of this book 30 years ago. I was a new Christian with no church background and very little understanding of the Bible. Though I was only 16 at the time, the book gave me a memorable framework for understanding the storyline of the Bible and the main subjects in Christian theology. This framework has served me well through college, seminary, and 20 years of pastoral ministry. I have never found anything else like it, so I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of this new version to review. I highly recommend it.

I wish I had discovered this book earlier in my Christian walk. I appreciated the overview of scripture, seeing where and how things line up. This book is exactly what it claims to be, a means of understanding the Bible. This is not a commentary but acts more as a summary, giving the reader some major guideposts from which to gain an understanding of the Bible in the broad view. Following the biblical outline, the author covers 10 major doctrines of the Church universal. My two favorite sections of the book are the nano summary, which does an even more condensed look at the Bible, covering the story, the teaching and the main message in 3000 words, and the section on mastering the Bible so well that it masters you. This book is NOT a substitute for diving into scripture but rather a tool to clear the way and let the student know what to expect in the unfolding story of scripture. This book can act as a launch point to greater understanding of the Word of God. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'm typically very skeptical when it comes to claims like, "Unlocking X in a certain number of minutes/days." To me, such taglines usually communicate, at best, a farce; at worst, a scam. Thankfully, Anders' book is neither. In his opening, he promises that if you give him 15 minutes of day to read each chapter, you'll attain a significant grasp of what the Bible is. Quite the claim, to be sure! For the most part, each chapter follows the same format. One of the strengths of the book is found in its didactic structure, focusing on the importance of recapping previous information and showing how each chapter builds and continues from the previous ones. I also appreciated Anders' anecdotes and stories in each chapter introduction as they tied in nicely with the topic at hand. He engages and dialogues with a number of other thinkers and writers, which is always helpful for further study. As one who has a particular interest in apologetics, I think Section 7 - Bonus Chapters (especially its chapter 36 discussion on the Resurrection) is worth the price of the book itself. For someone who may not be all that familiar with these topics, it serves as a fantastic introduction to get your feet wet and begin your study. As a student pastor, this book will be on my short-list of recommendations for those have (1) New/young Christians and/or (2) Non-Christians who may be open to thinking through the claims of Christianity. For skeptics, especially, I think it's worthwhile to engage with Anders' chapter on the Resurrection. Thankful for Anders' work here. *Note: I received an advance copy of the text in exchange for my honest review and feedback.

I would describe this book as "The Bible for Dummies," but that sounds derogatory, and it's really much more than that. It is a comprehensive overview of the Bible which provides insight into understanding the details. It is as much for the beginner as someone with a Bible degree. Everyone with an interest in learning more about the Bible as a book or just interested in being able to understand better what you read.
