Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
These two crochet stitch compendiums were first published as The Harmony Guide to Crochet Stitches and The Harmony Guide to 100s More Crochet Stitches. Stitch patterns are an excellent source of inspiration for crocheters wishing to put together their own individual designs, and these collections are among the best this reviewer has seen. 300 Crochet Stitches includes lace patterns, motifs, filet, clusters, shells, bobbles, and looped stitches, while 220 Crochet Stitches covers all-over patterns, edgings and trimmings, motifs, and Irish-style crochet. Full-color illustrations are superb, and stitch patterns include both diagrammed and written instructions. If only the publisher had matched the good-quality paper and printing with a strong binding; as with all the "Harmony Guides," these titles will require rebinding after a few circulations. Recommended for public libraries not owning the earlier edition. Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.

I learned to crochet from this book! The illustrations are excellent, and detailed colored diagrams accompany every well-described text. Easy to learn descriptions are detailed in the beginning of the book, as well as easy to follow specific details accompanying every special stitch. The vast majority of crochet for beginners is covered; only the specialty aspects are excepted. Some of these are covered in the companion book, '220 More Crochet Stitches'; But even more beginner's information can be found in 'Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet', which progresses the beginner through logical steps, rather than plunging them into it as these books do. Still, these books are precious resources for basic stitches. A miriad of motifs, Irish Lace patterns (including a beautiful alphabet), and some of the most easily-followed directions for Tunisian Crochet extant. Although it provides a reasonable Table of Contents, as does its companion, neither has an index or a glossary (the Encyclopedia of Crochet includes both). I also agree with the library critic who noted the really poor binding of the hardcover edition. Since I've experienced both, I'll note that the softcover edition appears to be somewhat more securely bound, but not by much. All things said, I highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants to teach themselves crochet, on their own, without taking classes. With a little trial and error, anyone who wants to can attain the art of crochet, as I have done with the aid of these books.

This is THE go-to book for any new crochet project I do, which are admittedly mostly afghans. Color photos accompanied by easy-to-read stitch diagrams are presented in a concise format that is great for reference and inspiration.

This book is a waste of money. The same stitch is shown over and again. I would not buy any product by the author

This is truly a wonderful crochet book. I went from a beginner to doing much more complicated stitches fairly quickly. The photos, illustrations and instructions are all wonderful, and I've been thrilled with what I've been able to create.

A wonderful book to just look at all the variety of stitches.
