This book is a great aid for the novice. (As Mr. Raymo states in the title, it is an introduction.) You'll easily read through it to get an overview of our night skies. Then, when you finally get a clear night, you'll grab the book and turn to the appropriate month & quickly identify stars & constellations. After 365 Starry Nights whets your appetite, then you can look for books with more in-depth coverage. If it had more thorough cross-references, I would've given it the fifth star.
