Reviewed by Jessyca Garcia for Readers' Favorite I enjoyed reading the stories in 45 Magazine: Women's Literary Journal by Zorina Frey. This magazine is filled with stories, helpful tips and art. The stories are both fiction and nonfiction and are clearly stated which one they are before you begin reading them. Everything in this magazine, from stories to pictures, is by women. At first, 45 Magazine seemed eerily similar to the magazine True Story. However, 45 Magazine has more than just stories in it, and after reading it I actually prefer it to True Story. My favorite story in this issue (October 2015) was Blind Date written by Jenelle Huskey. That story had a shocking twist to it which I absolutely loved. I also enjoyed the exercise tips from Kathleen O’Malley. They were extremely helpful for me because I suffer from lower back pain and these exercise focused on just that problem. There was even a yummy recipe for dark chocolate and amaretto mousse that I cannot wait to try. The one thing that makes this magazine really stand out is that some of the authors of these stories choose to remain anonymous. As Frey says in her letter from the editor, this magazine gives women “the freedom to tell a story.” That freedom makes all the difference. If I were ever to see 45 Magazine at the newsstand, then it would be one of the first I would choose to buy. It is very entertaining and has a little something for everyone. I hope to see more issues of this magazine soon.
