Leo Landry is the starting cornerback for the New York Mavericks and although I have no idea what that means it sounds interesting. From the first page to the last I was invested in Leo and Gemma Holden‘s story. Full of humour, laugh out loud, (who am I kidding - snort worthy moments) and incredibly sexy this book will draw you in and you won’t want to put it down. I finished it in almost one go; I just kept saying, one more chapter until sadly it ended. The banter and camaraderie in this book was outstanding, I felt myself smiling almost continuously and don’t get me started on Leo’s aunt who almost stole the book. What an amazing character Aunt Alma is and in fact I would so love a book based on her. (Hint Hint Max Monroe) . It is true fate works in mysterious ways and when Leo and Gemma meet it is so outrageously funny that I couldn’t stop laughing. I loved catching up with the “Maverick” family and their friends, to me it is like coming home.

Ok I haven’t read the other books in the series yet, but this one was amazing, Leo and Gemma, what a couple. I haven’t laughed so much in a book, I will so be reading the rest, this one kept me flipping the pages until the end.

3.5 stars — This one had so many good moments—moments where I laughed and moments where I swooned—but if I’m being honest, I struggled to maintain interest in the story as well. I enjoyed it, but I just wasn’t captured I guess. I wasn’t sucked into Leo and Gemma’s romance, and I just didn’t feel any strong chemistry. Basically, it was good, it just wasn’t great for me. Leo was pretty adorable. I will admit that sometimes his cocky moments threw me off, b/c most of the time he was really humble, hard-working, and with a good head on his shoulders. I know we’re given the impression that he acts cocky as sort of a front, but I guess I never really understood why. It was like that aspect of his personality was only there to make his appearances in Trick Play make sense. If not for that, he was a seriously solid hero. I loved his budding friendship with Cam. I loved that he took his career in football seriously, but that he didn’t have blinders on and was thinking about the future as well. And I loved how adorably inept he was in his relationship with Gemma…it was like this was his first serious relationship, and he just got befuddled so often. Gemma was spunky and fun, but even her personality had some dichotomies that didn’t work for me. She had moments of acting ditzy, and moments of super intelligence. I never quite figured her out. I totally got her college epiphany, and thought she made the right choice. But it was strange to have a heroine who just floundered and didn’t seem to have much drive. Not that I, personally, have much drive…but still, I just didn’t connect with her for some reason. As for their romance…well, I didn’t feel like I had enough time to really fall in love with it. I was impatient to get to them being together, and so became frustrated with so much time apart (especially since I wasn’t getting character growth that I understood). Now, when they did get together, it was super sweet! I loved their first two dates, and could feel their connection there. Strangely enough, I didn’t feel their steamy chemistry as much, but maybe that was just me. It felt very rushed. And then after that perfect romantic middle, we got more time jumps, and I didn’t get a chance to see their relationship evolve. So I was lost a bit again. Now saying all that, I loved the ending and the epilogue, I just felt like the story needed tightening up or something. Lots of potential, it just didn’t hit with me. I enjoyed the secondary characters, but I will admit I was occasionally baffled by them as well. Especially Abby. What was that girl’s deal? I didn’t particularly like her, was I supposed to? At one point I actually wondered if Gemma was insane and Abby was just a figment of her imagination…but that was for like .2 seconds. The football guys were fun as always. Aunt Alma/Nonna was interesting. I enjoyed her, but probably not as much as others did. So yeah. There’s my rambling review. I’m rounding up because the moments that made me laugh and smile and gave me butterflies were truly awesome…I just wish there had been more of them for me.

I have absolutely adored Max Monroe’s Mavericks Tackle Love series, and their newest release, 4th & Girl, complements the rest of the books extremely well while also adding its own romantic comedy uniqueness, and let me tell you, the way that Leo Landry and Gemma Holden first meet and then the unexpected way fate steps in to reconnect these two makes for not only a great story for them to share with their kids if they make it that for but it also leaves one heck of a lasting impression with readers. As a rookie defenseman for the Mavericks, Leo Landry’s focus should be 100% on football, but ever since his encounter with a certain ‘pint-sized bombshell,’ he’s been a bit preoccupied with tracking her down and claiming her as his own even though he knows nothing about her and has only shared one rather awkward and hilarious encounter that they will not soon forget. Leo is a quite book boyfriend; there’s nothing fake or arrogant about him. He’s a kickass football player who also knows that teamwork and hard work are two essential components of being successful, so while he has a lot to prove to his coaches, to his teammates, to the Mavericks’ fans, and to himself, he does so by simply being the gifted, determined, and conscientious athlete that he’s always been. Gemma is definitely my favorite kind of heroine. She’s quirky, awkward, and absolutely adorkable, and those are the characteristics that make her unforgettable for not only readers but also for the hero, Leo Landry. And as much as Gemma seems to be lost with what she wants to do with her life, the more she shares her passion of music with Leo, the clearer it becomes that, that is the path she should take and Leo won’t stop until she goes for her dream knowing that he will have her back and stand behind her the entire way, no matter what. The secondary characters, especially Alma and Abby, add to the level of hilarity found in the story and help provide comic relief in tenuous situations, calling the main characters out on their shit and putting things in quite a unique perspective when it’s necessary. The awkward situations, unexpected encounters, over-the-top reactions, and sexy dalliances that occur throughout 4th & Girl make for romantic comedy gold and allow readers to truly see who Leo and Gemma are and why their passion for each other and for their careers are worth the risk. 4.5 Poison Apples

This is a great book; this is the fourth book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series written by Max Monroe. I loved this book it’s one of my favorites. Gemma is trying to figure out what she wants out of life. She quit college in her senior year and has been working for a temp agency ever since. She take a temp job doing drug testing for the football team the Mavericks, she is so bad at the job that she spills the sexy player Leo urine all over her. She ends up working for an elderly woman, Alma who sells adult sex toys. Alma also happens to be Leo’s great aunt. This is a great book with a fun story and well developed characters and is so funny. Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put the book down until the end. I can’t wait to read then next book by this author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Wow, I never thought anyone would surpass Kline as my favourite Max Monroe man but I think Leo is right up there with him. He's a good guy with a heart of gold, a hard worker with a sensible head on his shoulders; he oozes charm and kindness. His determination along with his lack of ego ensure he makes friends and settles into the Mavericks quickly despite his young age.  Gemma is adorably awkward, drifting her way through a variety of temporary jobs including collecting urine samples from the Mavericks and creating one heck of a first impression when she meets Leo Having dropped out of college shortly before graduation, her relationship with her family is very strained. Brave enough to take control over something she despised, yet Gemma isn't courageous enough to admit what she really wants to do. Having been constantly fed negativity where her true aspirations lie, Gemma is frightened to acknowledge her talent and create a deeper rift with her family. Serendipity and an outrageous eighty-year-old reunite Leo and Gemma when they thought they wouldn't meet again. With the help of the wonderful crazy characters in their lives (yes, I am looking at you Abby as well as you, Alma ) Gemma and Leo fall into an easy relationship, they simply fit. However, Leo wants Gemma to have her dreams in the same way he has his with his football career, and in doing so pushes Gemma's boundaries, creating a strain on their relationship. Gemma has to face her fears or choose to live with her regrets, even at the cost of her relationship with Leo I loved the ease of 4th and Girl and the way Gemma required the shove into accepting her talents and working for her dreams. The epilogue just made me swoon and fall further for Leo

Gemma is fun, she boldly dropped out of engineering school and is working temp jobs to pay the bills. One assignment has her doing drug tests for a football team which brings her directly into Leo’s path in a hysterical way. Her next assignment brings her to Alma, a fabulously fun older woman that runs an online sex toy shop. But her true passion is music yet fear holds her back. Leo can’t get the crazy blond out of his head and when he visits his aunt, he is shocked to find her there helping his aunt. Well, Leo isn’t going to let her disappear again. Their romance is full of funny twists and sexy chemistry. As he works toward a football championship, will they find a way to build something lasting? I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I love catching up with my friends and family at the Mavericks and I can honestly say that’s how I feel when I pick up one of Max Monroe’s books because Its like I’m going home. This is Leo and Gemma’s tale and what a funny tale they have to tell. Leo has just been drafted as a first round pick to the Mavericks and he is destined for fame as long as he stays injury free and focused but focusing is hard when you bump and I mean literally bump into the woman of your dreams on your very first day ....... Gemma is a bit uncoordinated, she is finding it hard to hold a job down but she won’t be pushed into a career chosen for her by her parents she needs to find her own way in life and that makes her determined , sassy and easy to love. I adored this couple, Gemma is smart, funny and not afraid to stand up for herself while Leo is a swoon worthy man on a mission, the attraction is instant, the banter is witty, the chemistry sizzling and lets not forget the laugh or should I say snort out loud moments that you come to expect in this series. Cam, Quinn and Sean are their normal funny selfs but this time around they have a rookie to steer or point in the right direction ........ 4th & Girl is the final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love but each book can be read as a stand-alone , am I sad to see it come to an end off course but what a way to finish a series this book certainly leaves you on a high. I laughed till I cried and I certainly will re read this series because I don’t think I could ever tire of the wonderful characters this very talented writing duo have given us at the Mavericks. Another 5 star plus read from the ladies we know and love as Max Monroe.

This story about Leo and Gemma was funny, quirky and highly enjoyable that I couldn’t put it down! Between witty side characters and the witty banter I thought the authors wrote an amazing story that hit me right in the feels! I laughed, giggled, swooned, sighed and was a little angry at one point but the direction the story went and Leos hilarious Aunt made for the most easy to read fun book!!! How Gemma and Leo meet is absolutely hilarious, and I found it great how by happenstance things occurred! This was a fantastic addition to the series and I cant wait to see who’s next!!! Leo’s camaraderie with his teammates was downright funny, the friendships formed were lifelong and I grew to love all the characters in the book! Well done to the authors on writing such a fun storyline!

4.5* Although I (still) haven’t read the first book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series, I feel pretty confident in saying that 4th & Girl is, and will always be, my favorite of the 4. Leo and Gemma are both so adorable! Not every book do you find yourself loving both main characters equally- usually my heart leans a little more towards one or the other (and more often than not it’s the hero), but in this case, I have to say I adored both Gemma and Leo equally- their funny and awkward first meeting set the tone for all the Max Monroe goodness that was to come. And don’t even get me started on Alma, aka Nonna- what a hoot! She’s the aunt we’d all secretly love to have. Anyway, back to the story- did I say adorable? Because it really is! Their first date was so freaking fun and I couldn’t wait to see what else was in store as they got to know each other. I loved how easy things progressed between them, they really were so cute and perfect together. I really enjoyed this story so much! Yes, there was a point in the story when Gemma maybe got a little too stubborn, but then again, Leo kind of had it coming. So see, it all balanced out for me! Plus, given their ages, the little conflict they do encounter is to be expected. And let’s just talk about their ages, shall we? Or rather, how they acted their age. I find that sometimes when you have a couple in their very early 20s they can tend to be portrayed as too mature/much older than the really are. But Max & Monroe did a really great job of keeping Leo and Gemma’s actions/reactions/thoughts/feelings true to those of a younger couple, and that made me kind of irrationally happy!

Loved Leo's big heart. Leo and Gemma have to take the biscuit as far as first ‘meet-cutes’ go. Theirs has to be the most awkward and smelly ever. But they were oh so cute when they did finally get together. Leo is just starting with the Maverick’s and Gemma has been temping for the last year after having dropped out of her final year of college. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, so she’s just been going from job to job. Until this last one which just happened to be with Leo’s Nonna. Nonna, or Alma as Gemma knows her, was quite the star of this story, she was freaking awesome and helped get the kids together. Then there was Gemma’s best friend, the quirky maybe even eccentric Abby. That girl has a story to tell. Are we going to get it? Great book, but now I have to go buy the previous three books in the series as I want all the stories.

Gemma is working temp jobs while she figures out what to do. She is working as a medical assistant at the Mavericks stadium, collecting urine from the players. After a mishap involving the delectable Leo Landry she is let go. Leo can’t get the medical assistant out of his head. When he runs into her at his aunt’s house, he knows he can’t let her go. This was a madcap romp! Super hot and sexy combined with laugh out loud scenes. Leo is determined and driven. Gemma is sweet. Really enjoyable, fun read. I am sad that this is the end of the series.

Another touchdown for Max Monroe! 4th and Girl follows Leo Landry, the newest hot shot for the New York Mavericks. You do not have to be a major football fan in order to love this series though. You just have to enjoy humor, fantastic love stories, and great characters. Leo and Gemma are no exception, and they can easily be read as a standalone. I'm sad that this is the end of the Mavericks Tackle Love series, but am so happy to have met all these characters and get a glimpse into their lives. Back to Leo and Gemma. From the hilarious first meet-cute (maybe not so cute?!?!), to the Aunt Alma that has you cracking up, 4th and Girl is pure perfection. You will laugh, you will cringe, and you will be a better person for it. Don't miss this book!

4.9 Stars Finally book #4! Leo's story. Leo is a brand new professional football player and he's a bit scared ... will he'll make it in the big league? He was a college superstar, but the NFL is something entirely different. And instead of concentrating only on football and his very first season.... he can't stop thinking about the beautiful girl he met when he had to go to the team's clinic to get his urine tested. The meeting of football player and medical assistant and pee did not go as it was supposed to go, but still, Leo can't stop thinking about her. He wants to see her again - but he has no idea who she is! Gemma just dropped out of college because she realized that she didn't want to take over the family's engineering company. She wants to make a living being a singer-songerwriter. But that's just a stupid dream she's too scared to dream. That's why she's taking temp job after temp job. And on one of those jobs she met Leo. Will they ever find each other again???? I'm pretty sure Gemma's new hilarious temp job brings them closer than they might think ... ☺ LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN! ♥♥♥♥♥ AWW - SUCH AN ADORABLE & FUNNY STORY! I loved Gemma and Leo and his Nonna! I totally saw her as Frankie from the Netflix show Frankie & Grace - or is it the other way around? Grace & Frankie? No idea - hilarious show though!☺ Leo and Gemma meet in the most adorable way. HILARIOUS!!!!! And then it takes them a while to find each other again. And then of course we need some time to fall for each other while trying be the best first-year football player ever and for Gemma to get over her fear of being a professional musician! Not gonna be easy! But we LOVE every single second watching our two darlings fight for their happily ever after! We also loved the other players' cameos!!! The book was really funny, adorable, very sexy, sweet, a bit frustrating. Gemma is not easily convinced to give music a real shot! But I really loved reading it. I loved that we don't have that stupid misunderstanding or mistake moment with a groupie or something like that. It was an extremely sweet New Adult romance. I loved it! ► 4th & GIRL was an amazingly sweet & funny Romance! Hurry to your nearest amazon for your own Leo - this one is MINE!!! I can't wait to see what MM will have for us next!

Could Leo be anymore swoony? I think not. Another MM hit for sure. While the chance meeting wasn't my favorite, the characters were solid and drew me in as the story progressed. Gemma is funny, sweet, and all around great while she's trying to find her place in the world. Leo knows what he wants and gets it, and he's just the right mix to be a great book boyfriend. Stealing the book is Leo's aunt, Alma. I haven't laughed like that in a LONG time. Not overly angsty and a satisfying end to the Mavericks series. Well done, Max Monroe!

Leo Landry is the bomb! Out of all the Mavericks, he has stolen my heart...His immediate and unconditional love for Gemma just takes my breath away...He does screw it up, like all men do, but he never doubts his love for her and he never gives up on her dream, even when she does. If you haven’t read the other Maverick stories, you will be fine starting with this one but do yourself a big favor and read the rest....Max Monroe brings all the feels in every story they write.

This might be the cutest book I've ever read. It was funny, sweet, filled with most embarrassing things happening known to a person. I loved the chemistry between Gemma and Leo. I loved him for wanting the best for her even when she was to scared to do anything about it. I loved seeing the "old" characters. And than Nonnie and BFF Abby were hilarious side characters. It would seem Max Monroe can't write anything that isn't simple amazing. Another great read and another amazing couple to get to know. ***Review copy requested and reviewed on the behalf of OMGReads Blog***

You don't have to be a sports enthusiast to fall in love with a good book. 4th & Girl is a story of hard earned rewards and heartbreaking risks that centers around a love of football and an eclipse of the heart. Monroe breathes life into characters that are captivating, aggravating and at times down right infuriating, but no less hard to resist. Gemma and Leo score a touchdown in my book.
