Hey, at least I tried reading this clap-trap.
Obviously, Dupre couldn't provide in-depth understanding of any one topic, but this is a creditable job of outlining significant ideas in human civilization. I might quibble with some of the choices, but in general he's done a fine job of representing the core of an idea followed by a brief summary of the arguments of that particular idea's proponents and detractors. Contrary to the opinion of some reviewers who didn't like that their pet philosophy wasn't exalted to the heavens, this is a pretty objective introduction to a wide range of topics. Very well done.
