More than 11,000 babies are born every day in the United States. Their parents prepare the room, buy all the equipment and diapers, go to birthing classes, find a pediatrician and anxiously await their arrival. Rarely do these parents have any preparation for the sleep deprivation before them. Kim West, author of "Good Night, Sleep Tight" and nationally known as "The SleepLady (tm)" has written 52 Sleep Secrets for Babies" to help new parents learn what they need to do to get their babies - and themselves - the sleep they need.
The Sleep Lady®approach is founded on my general beliefs as a family therapist: I'm a proponent of parents developing and maintaining a secure attachment with their child while creating a family life where everyone is happy, healthy and well-rested. My sleep approach builds on step-by-step changes in bedtime, napping and overnight routines so that a child can develop sleep independence and sleep more soundly and longer while feeling confident that Mom and Dad will be nearby and responsive. It's a gentler alternative for families who can't stomach the idea of letting their babies cry it out; for families who have tried Ferber without success; and for families who had success earlier on with crying it out but find that it isn't working now. I have also worked with families who believe in co-sleeping but whose babies don't really sleep all that well, even nestled snugly with Mom and Dad. And I've guided many families who did co-sleep for a few months or a few years but now want the family bed to revert to a marital one.
52 Sleep Secrets for Babies summarizes much of what I have learned from working with hundreds of families and that I now teach to the new parents I see in my practice and through my website. So many have asked me for a quick and easy to follow guide to helping their babies learn to sleep and to help them prevent problems down the road, I have put together this little book that you can carry with you anywhere and refer to before and after sleep problems arise.

About the Author
Kim West, The Sleep Lady, mother of two and a licensed family therapist for 20 years. I have been successfully helping sleepless parents just like you for over 15 years all over the world.
My sleep journey began over 18 years ago when I started experimenting with gently shaping my first daughter’s sleep by not following the conventional wisdom at the time. After having success and then more success with my second daughter, I began helping family and friends and it spread like wildfire….like an excellent night of sleep for a tired parent will!
Since then I have been on a mission to provide gentle sleep solutions to parents everywhere.
My approach is a gentler alternative for families who emotionally or philosophically resist letting their babies cry it out: for families who tried “Ferber” and it didn’t work, and for families who let their infant CIO at 3 or 4 months but found it didn’t help later. I have also helped families who believe in co-sleeping but find that their children aren’t really sleeping all that well, even nestled snugly with Mom and Dad. And I have helped guide many families who did co-sleep for a few months to a few years but now want the family bed to revert back to the marital one.
I have been sharing my sleep secrets with a nationwide and now a global audience through my personal coaching sessions, speaking events and books. My books (which have sold over 100,000 copies all over the globe with a 95% success rate) provide the step-by-step advice to quickly and gently solve your child’s sleep problems.

This book is amazing. It offers practical easy to use advice to help your baby become a champion sleeper. My son was sleeping through the night by 3 months using the information given in this book. A must have for all sleep deprived new mommies!!! A quick read which is a must for moms with a newborn OR challenged sleeper!!
Her first book, goodnight sleep tight, got our son peacefully and easily onto a sleep pattern that kept him rested - but as the traveling and teething set in, we hit a few setbacks - I wanted to refer to my book but it was loaned out to a friend, who loaned it to her friend and so on - its never coming back (I'll be buying that one again - so worth it)....so I picked up this book and it is as if I took great notes from the first book - 52 secrets is like a quick reference guide when you hit sleeping setbacks like traveling to a different time zone, or even MORE teething. I'm buying more for stocking stuffers for my playgroup friends!
I had read Good Night, Sleep Tight, and found it very useful. I consider Kim West my Sleep Guru, as my kids are just not good sleepers by nature. I love to have this book handy to refresh my memory, especially when the kids are sick or we go on vacation and we fall off of our schedule. The tips are very useful. It says it is a book of tips for babies, but I think it is helpful even for older kids, and even has good reminders for parents who need to put themselves to bed and have routines in order to sleep well. I gave a copy to a friend who has a 5-month old, and she loved it. I plan to include it with baby shower gifts in the future.
