Like Take That before them, these five lads from London perfected their own brand of boy-band grooves before bringing them stateside. R&B bass lines drive most of their songs, placing them in good company among a growing pool of artists who qualify as both soul and pop. Sure, the ballads are what bring tears to the fans' eyes, but it's when Five unleashes the funk that they really shine. Their radio hit "When the Lights Go Out," the basketball tribute "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)," and "It's the Things You Do" could entice almost anyone, detractors included, to hit the dance floor. It's no surprise, considering that Denniz Pop -- the late Swedish hit maker responsible for Ace of Base's success -- was one of the funk-savvy producers behind this record.

The other 5ive album has more songs - we may not have 'When i remember when' but we do have: slam dunk da funk, when the lights go out, everybody get up, got the feelin', it's the things you do, human (the 5ive remix), until the time is through, satisfied, partyline 555-on-line, that's what you told me, it's all over, don't you want it, shake, cold sweat, straight up funk, my song, switch, :)But, on the whole, both versions are one of my better buys; the worst being Billie: never listened to it more than once.
