60's Greatest Rock & Roll Hits
Madacy's three-disc set 60's Greatest Rock & Roll Hits collects well-known singles from the early- to mid-'60s, including Chubby Checker's "The Twist," Sam & Dave's "Soul Man," and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." The collection does a pretty good job of representing most of the musical trends of that era, from girl group hits like the Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back" and the Chiffons' "One Fine Day" to the surf rock of Jan & Dean's "Surf City" and the Surfaris' "Wipe Out" to R&B/soul singles like Dee Clark's "Raindrops" and Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me." Fun psychedelic and garage-inspired selections like the Turtles' "Happy Together" and Chad Allan & the Expressions' "Shakin' All Over" complete this entertaining, if somewhat scattered, collection. While the tracklisting might be a little too predictable for die-hard fans of '60s pop and rock, this collection is worthwhile for for anyone interested in some of the era's bigger hits.
