About the Author
Ivey went on to work as a Property and Casualty Insurance Agent for 55 years. During this time, he served as President on the boards of a number of non-profit agencies as well as Officers or Boards of Director for several corporations.
Married to his beautiful wife, Babs, for 56 years until her death in 2010, Ivey has enjoyed many hobbies over the years, such as magic, photography, golf, traveling, and tennis (see photos on the next page). Some of his many travels have been on cruise ships, where he chose cruise lines that stopped at more ports rather than sailing on the high seas...a new adventure each day.
Active in his community, Ivey served on the St. Luke's Episcopal Church Vestry as Stewardship Chairman and he taught Sunday school for five years. He has also worked with people in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, working to make life better for those with hearing impairments.
A lover of corny jokes, Ivey is quick to pass on the latest one or the latest practical joke. In one of his escapades when his children were young, he passed out 150 baby chicks as trick-or-treat goodies for Halloween.
At the ripe "young" age of 86, Ivey wanted to share with a younger audience his love of the beach and the happy times he and his family have enjoyed over a lifetime. Thus, A Beach Manual was born.
Ivey has written two other books as well (unfortunately, no longer available), and he has plans to write another book in the near future. He resides in the Birmingham, Alabama area.
