Overview

A Body on the Porch by Steve Demaree

While a retired detective on vacation is standing in front of a popular breakfast place in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, he encounters a weasel of a man who is only there because one of his neighbors is paying for his vacation. The detective makes a mistake of telling the man what he used to do for a living, and the man asks the detective if he goes home and finds a body will the detective come and solve the murder at no cost to him. The detective tells him he will do it only if the body is found on the front porch. When the freeloader goes home and finds a body on his front porch, he calls the detective, who has just returned home from his vacation himself. The entry in the Dekker Cozy Mystery series fits in with the others in the series, which means it is a whodunit with lots of humor and twists and turns.

I've read each book and can't wait for the next one. Love all the Wii inferences since they've begun. Almost fell out of my chair

I have read the first 9 books of this series and this is my least favorite. There was more talk of food, movies and other unnecessary information, just filler that could have been left out. I figured out the who done it way too soon, just not the relationship to the victim. Did enjoy that characters from another series were involved in the story. Have recommended Mr. Demaree's books to others, but not sure I will recommend this book.

Shy of 4 stars due to all the food and movie descriptions. Just too much. Otherwise a fun little mystery.
