Over the past 20 years, University of Texas at Austin history professor Crunden has taught and lectured around the world, most notably in Finland, Germany, Australia, and India. An edited collection of 54 papers that were presented at the 14th UOEH (University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan) International Symposium, October 1994, sponsored by the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization, and the International Ergonomics Association, among other agencies. The focus is on older people in the workforce rather than on the problems of the elderly in general (one-third of the total workforce worldwide is aged 45 years or older; in Asia, the figure is one-half). After an initial overview section, chapters are grouped together within the areas of occupational health, workload and stress, occupational safety, industrial ergonomics, and work capacity and job adaptation.
