About the Author

Dr. Mildred D. Peyton was born in West Africa, Sierra Leone, on September 10, 1981, and came to the United States at the tender age of seven. As a young child, Dr. Peyton's parents and grandparents instilled the value of education in her. With that value, she received two bachelor's degrees (in a dual degree program) in Sociology and Social Work from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Salisbury University in 2003. She went on to pursue her master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, completing the degree in 2009. Finally, Dr. Peyton entered the doctoral program in Human and Social Services, with a concentration in Social Policy Analysis & Planning from Walden University, in June, 2011, and finished in August 2015.
Closely related to this book, A Bully on the School Bus, Dr. Peyton's doctoral dissertation study ("Exploring the Meaning of School Bullying Among Parents of Victimized Children") was based on school bullying. As the mother of two young daughters, Leah and Jada, Dr. Peyton selected the topic of school bullying not only for the benefit of her own children, but also for other children who face bullying, especially in school. Dr. Peyton believes her dissertation research will lend greater insight to the issue of school bullying, and help strengthen school policies. Now, in the form of a children's book, Dr. Peyton wants to provide a tool of inspiration and hopes for children who are victims and witnesses of bullying, their parents, and school officials.
Dr. Peyton takes great pride in her recent works on the topic of school bullying and wishes that all children will one day be free from being bullied in school.
"My dream was to become a child psychologist (with some interest in fashion design) and, even though I did not fulfill those dreams, I've always had a deep desire to be an advocate for children in whatever way I see fit. I'm a firm believer that children are the world's future leaders, so it is important to invest in their well-being."
