Napoleonic France is no place for an Englishman, especially Michael Harcourt, the Earl of Kendal, who is on a clandestine assignment for the Crown. “A Cantata of Love” is book 4 in The Code Breakers Series by Jacki Delecki. France during Napoleon’s reign is a dangerous place for Michael Harcourt, the Earl of Kendal. He is on a clandestine mission for the British crown when he is shot and wounded. Slipping into a coma and teetering on the edge of death, Michael is nursed by Lady Gabrielle De Valmont. Gabrielle is fleeing for her life from Napoleon’s men. Napoleon wants her fortune and he wants to force her to marry his brother. Together Michael and Gabrielle uncover a French plot to kill the British monarch. Can they save him in time? What do they do with their growing attraction to one another? I enjoyed the creativity in this story. There are twists and plot turns that I did not anticipate. I think it is important to read the entire series to get the full taste of the story. I highly recommend this book.

This is the 4th book in this series. Michael Harcourt, Earl of Kendal, a linguist and code breaker, is in France on a covert assignment for England when he is injured trying to escape France with a young boy. That boy turns out to be Miss Gabrielle (Gabby) De Valmont, a Marquis’ daughter, also in danger from Napoleon and Fouche’s men. When Michael is shot during their escape and develops a fever, Gabby nurses him until he is able to travel back to England. Then all their plans go awry. Nothing is the way they expected it to be. Even though Michael wants to be near Gabby to love and protect her, he is given a new assignment to get “close” to the opera singer Madame Abney. He has to find out if she is the one sending messages to France through her operas. You will find spies, intrigue, mysteries, twists and turns, surprises, love, and wonderful characters. I loved all the characters, but especially the unusual and unconventional (at least in private) Aunt Euphemia. If you love the Regency period, I think you’ll enjoy this story as much as I did. There are only a couple of sex scenes, which are easy to skip over. After reading this story, I would like to read the first three books of this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book to read and give my honest opinion, which I have done.

Adventure, Intrigue and Romance! This is the 4th book in the series... I have read them out of order, but the book is so well written it gives you the right amount of info so you understand what has happened previously to some of the other characters... it can easily be a standalone. I love historicals and I truly enjoyed stepping into this bit of romantic suspense! The characters take you along an amazing adventure of intrigue and romance... many hours of delightful reading! I was pulled into Michael and Gabby's story and enjoyed every moment of it! Great characters and a wonderful storyline! *copy given in exchange for an honest review.

A Cantata of Love by Jacki Delecki is great romantic suspense! This is the 4th book in the Code Breakers Series. “I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.” I have not yet read the previous three books in the series but if this is an example of what came before, I will definitely want to search out, find and read them! Not only was there multiple strings of intrigue and mystery going on at the same time but also a little steam in the romance department. Top all that with historical regency. This should satisfy all kinds of readers.

A Cantata of Love by Jacki Delecki is the fourth book in her Code Breakers series; but it can easily be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book because it has everything that I want in a historical romantic suspense. A fast paced plot with well developed characters, plenty of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages because I had to know more and a slow and heated romance. The premise of this code was based on music; and I really did find that to be fascinating. I never knew that there was a "musical code" that was used during this time period. I also enjoyed seeing old friends again from the previous books and finding out how they are and what they have been up to since I left them. I am hoping that this series continues as I always look forward to each book that Ms. Delecki has written in this series. I was given an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
