Overview

Bubble... Bubble...

June Heal has nothing to lose when she relocates her homeopathic cure shop, A Dose of Darla, from the flea market booth in her home town, to a quaint shop in the cozy but unusual little town of Whispering Falls, Kentucky. Or so it seems.

Cures and trouble...

Whispering Falls has a lot of secrets. From talking snow globes to whispering animals not to mention a few sprinkles of fairy dust, June realizes Whispering Falls is more magical than she thought. . .literally.

Magic stirs...

June discovers she was born into a family of psychics, and her homeopathic cures truly are magical. Unfortunately, they are not magical enough to save her from being the number one murder suspect when a member of the community that she had just had a disagreement with shows up face down in the lake with June's lucky charm in the victim's grasp.

And troubles double...

Add to that an attraction to her high school best friend, Sheriff Oscar Park and Mr. Prince Charming, her cat, is stealing charms from Belle's Baubles, June is forced to clear her name in more ways than murder. After all, they don't have cauldrons in jail.

I feel like I’ve typed this a thousand times, but I am a sucker for books about witches, especially ones just coming into their power. This was a fast read, perfect for vacation when I wanted an easy-breezy story. The characters are starting to get developed, and I’m hoping the future books in the Magical Cures Mystery, they will see them come into their full being. Tonya Kappes mainly focused on Jane, Oscar and Mr. Prince Charming. The side characters were not delved as deeply into, but once again, the series is just starting. I would love to read more scenes with the snarky crystal ball. I did like the premise of a magical tourist town, with the residents having different psychic and magical abilities. I hope in future books that the powers are explored more. You definitely need to suspend all belief for this book. Oscar finds a wonderful town, and Jane just up and moves. She doesn’t even question it later on when she finds out that the town bought her old house, so she could live in Whispering Falls. And when she finds her mom’s old shop, she barely bats an eye. Lucky for her all she needs to do is a bit of dusting and she is able to open the shop. All the ingredients magically refill when she passes by them at the end of the shift, and there were a bunch of potions already mixed up. The two parts that made me give this book three stars instead of more, are all the grammatical errors, and I found myself having to stop quit a few times and figure out was happening since the jumps were so abrupt. The first one, I thought I had just missed something, but by the third time I came to the conclusion that this book could use some more editing. I did enjoy the story so I will be reading A Charming Cure to see how the Magical Cures Mystery series continues.

CAUTION! THIS BOOK MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK YET!!!!!!!! This book I believe is the first book I have read this year and also the first non-teen book review I am doing for this blog. I have read a lot of other adult books but I think starting with this one is a good idea. Since I got it off my already read book list for this year on goodreads. I’m supposed to read seventy-five books by the end of the year and I have read forty-one. I’m quite happy with what I have accomplished so far. I actually think I started reading this on our road trip/move from California to Montana. Anyways even though this book is self-published by the author I actually loved it. Since yeah there was errors in the book but in my opinion even the books from actual publishers also have that problem with not very good editing jobs. This book is a really good one and I even more liked how the character, June, found out that her mom, Darla, used to live and work there and about who her dad actually was. She also learns a lot about herself in this book and others. She even helps her best guy friend out with his job some, since he is the sheriff in that town. This book is so good and Tonya Kappes is a really good author and I can’t wait to read more of her books. This Review was previously posted on my blogspot site which I will be closing soon.
