Overview

A City Without Pity by Tom Raley

The city is firmly held in the grip of fear as a serial killer lurks in the shadows, claiming a new victim each week. The killer preys on young women with seemingly nothing in common except to have somehow caught his eye. With the discovery of each new victim the city descends deeper into the shadows, consumed by the desire to escape the killer's grip. The efforts of the police task force is complicated by the appearance of a copycat killer, a news leak from one of their own and little to no physical evidence. Weakening under relentless pressure from the media and citizens groups, the Mayor forms a plan to stave off certain political death. Willing to sacrifice the task force, the administration hopes to buy time by centering the blame for the continued murders by laying the blame on the task force's lack of progress. Time is short as the task force, lead by Steven Gauge, sift through the meager clues to piece together a profile of the killer. Gauge and his group of unorthodox detectives work relentless to beat the deadline and prevent the killer from claiming yet another victim.

At the beginning the book was an easy read, enjoyable enough, kept my interest throughout. But then it came to the final chapters and it got so exciting. It turned into one of the best books I have ever read. I hope people don't let the low price of the book make them think it is not worth reading. TerryG63
