A Heartstopping Intense Read This was incredible. Skylar comes back to the small town with an entrance that won't soon leave my mind. The story just escalates from there with the two mains having true feelings for each other. Skylar however, does have that meniacal Xboyfriend after her who won't stop trying to get her back. I was engrossed as scenes unfolded and events played out. I am an impatient reader tho, so did get bogged down a bit in a few places, still an awesome read. It was high on drama with a lot of action, less on romance, but the chemistry was there. I do think my heart stopped toward the end, now I can take a deep breath and sigh with that Happy Ending Relief!

✦Review: A COWBOY LIKE YOU (Heart of Texas) by Donna Grant Publication Date: November 26, 2019 Genre: Contemporary Romance Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated 4 Stars This was my first contemporary Donna Grant novel. I enjoyed the romantic suspense and couldn’t read fast enough to see how things played out. Danny and Skyler were both relatable and likeable people. Their actions and reactions made sense and led to a sexy romance despite all the danger. I only wished that I was more emotionally invested in them. I was glad to have a bad guy that I loved to hate, the kind where you cheer at their downfall. Pure satisfaction. I also enjoyed the people surrounding them and how they interacted with each other. It didn’t have a deep level of camaraderie, but enough to make it fun. It is a nice quick read. *Review copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ~*~*~*~

Danny is a good ole boy, a sheriff, who doesn't date. He says he's married to his job, but he's lonely and dulls the pain of his job with alcohol. Skylar has the worst taste in men. She made a terrible mistake with Matt and can't get away from him. Skylar left Danny after high school. They say the first cut is the deepest. Can Danny keep her safe from Matt? I really liked Matt and wanted him to be in a good place. Skylar was much harder for me to like because she kept making poor mistakes, even knowing better. She kept repeating the same mistakes. 4.5

A nice book in Donna Grant’s “Heart of Texas” series. Can be read as a stand alone book. I never understood why women put up with any abuse with all the talk about it. Years ago it was an in the closet problem, and no one said anything or were embarrassed. I was glad to read how strangers and friends protect others when times are bad for others. Enjoyable book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I just LOVED this book. Danny has appeared in all of the books in this series and we finally get to read his HEA. Danny is at odds with his life. He loves his job as sheriff but he pictured a wife and maybe a child or two by now. Unfortunately the girl that he liked in high school left for the big city of Houston right after graduation. Danny gets some dinner but doesn't want to eat at home nor sitting down in a restaurant. He decides to eat his dinner at a rest stop that he enjoys the views from. A sports car comes into the rest stop and is shortly followed by another. The driver of the second car gets out and assaults the driver of the first vehicle. It turns out that the driver in the sports car is none other than the girl from high school, Skylar Long. The rest of the story is one that is filled with intrigue and suspense. We get to see the prior characters return here and help Skylar and Danny. I loved how the book not only was written in the dual POV that I favor, but also it included Matt's, Skylar's abusive ex-boyfriend now stalker. I was a little disappointed in Skylar's character. She seemed to entered into sexual relationships rather easily in her life in Houston. I don't approve of that normally and I wished her character was a little different. Having sex between Danny and Skylar as soon as it was, was a little too much for me but it didn't affect how I adored the story. I was glued to my e-reader to hurry and see what was going to happen next. Unfortunately for me, that also leads to the conclusion of the story. There are several scenes that may not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. There are some sexy scenes between Danny and Skylar as well as a scene of violence. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I highly encourage to start at the beginning. Seeing the relationships develop with all of the characters really will help to show the dedication and loyalty that these characters have for each other. I look forward to several more stories in this series. There are a few more men that needs a HEA for me to read about.

A Cowboy Like You is an action packed romantic suspense novel. On the run from an abusive boyfriend, Skylar stops at a rest stop and is attacked. Danny is eating his lunch when he sees a domestic violence scene unfolding before.him. Always one to run to the rescue, Danny jumps in before realizing it is his old high school crush. Their feelings develop quickly as they fight Skylar's powerful ex and his family in a tale that made me think Liam Neeson should be starring in the lead role. Their relationship moves very quickly and the violence escalates to epic proportions in the story that is somewhat over the top. I enjoyed the main characters but found the story somewhat predictable while being a little light on the love story. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

A Cowboy Like You Heart of Texas Donna Grant St. Martins Press, Nov 26, 2019 304 pages Western Romance, Second Chance Romance Provided by Author’s rep via NetGalley ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The cover doesn’t tell us much except that we’re dealing with a good-looking, clean-cut, hardworking cowboy. But that’s probably enough to get most of us who like this genre to buy the book! Danny’s just eating his take-out at the rest stop on his night off as the local sheriff when a fancy car pulls in and parks. Then a second expensive car pulls in next to the first one. Skylar drove past the bar and checked to be sure that Matt was there with his friends before hightailing it out of Houston. She wasn’t going to stick around to be Matt’s punching bag. When she saw headlights in her rearview mirror, she pulled into the rest stop and parked. Sure enough, Matt pulled into the space next to her and stepped out of the car. He slammed his hands on the hood of her car. The dent could be hammered out, she knew. Broken bones were much harder to heal. It wasn’t until Matt had been taken away in a cruiser by the deputy that Danny and Skylar got to see each other closely enough to recognize each other. There was the girl he never felt he was good enough to try for; and “she knew that if anyone could protect her, it was Danny Oldman.” This is a second chance western love story that takes a young sheriff who’s headed towards being a lonely drunk in spite of his good friends’ best efforts and a former local girl who escaped to the big city and liked it until she ran into domestic violence and brings them back together to heal each other. We seem to see domestic violence a lot more in romances these days as it becomes something authors feel they want to address or expose in any way they can. Ms. Grant deals quite well with it in her story. She also has created very good characters for us in this book. You feel for Danny in the first chapter when he is thinking about his loneliness and his job, about eating or not and about drinking. You can understand how he has come to this point where it’s almost more of an effort than it’s worth to get dressed and get something to eat because there is nothing to eat in the house. The author makes you feel his despondency. You also feel the hope spark when Danny and Skylar recognize each other at the rest stop. Ms. Grant does a wonderful job drawing us into the feelings of her characters and making us part of the story. There’s plenty of action later on as well. And as it’s a second chance story, love wins out in the end. So we do have a HEA with this one. Recommended.

Great handling of the difficult topic of physical and mental abuse. Skylar’s attempt to run from an abusive, wealthy boyfriend sends her back to her old hometown where she is rescued by a high school friend, now sheriff. Her small town pulls together to protect her from her abuser, but he’s not ready to give up. Very emotional, well thought out story line with very appealing characters.

Actually, the hero in the story isn’t a cowboy, but the sheriff in a Texas hometown. He’s thrown into a fight to save the woman he had a crush on in high school when she flees back from Houston to try to escape her abusive boyfriend. Luckily for her, he has all sorts of friends with special skills to help protect her as they go after the ex and his wealthy family. It’s all rather predictable, but still enjoyable. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I would do a full 5 stars except for the use of the f-bomb and the explicit sex scenes. Another milder 4 letter word could have easily been used and the sex scenes could have been left to the imagination. A great storyline and sweet romance in which one can only begin to imagine being in such an abusive relationship. We know abuse like this happens and what she describes is probably accurate information of how victims feel and the torment they endure. Fast paced quick read, but as noted, could be better with the omission of the explicit sex and language. I am not a prude, but those did nothing to enhance the story. I received this book as a complimentary copy for an unbiased review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Not every knight wears armor and rides up on a white horse. Some wear a badge and drive a pickup. This is a love story that shows that there is someone out there for everyone. Just sometimes you need to wait awhile. “she knew that if anyone could protect her, it was Danny Oldman.” Skylar has been through hell and back in an abusive relationship. Danny, though he loves his job, finds himself hiding after he takes off his badge. What once would have been puppy love has kindled into a fiery relationship. This is not a story for everyone. It does have some elements that may trigger some readers with events of domestic abuse. But it is told well, with compassion and strength. This is another novel by Donna Grant where you find yourself reading into the early morning hours, because you can’t wait to see what happens to your characters. Well worth it in my eyes.

I love a second chance romance story. This book provides an emotional roller coaster ride for the reader as well as the characters in the story. If it's by Donna Grant it's worth my time, she's a fantastic writer!

Danny and Skylar's story is so heart satisfying! Love this book because if you haven't gotten a chance to finish all the previous stories, you could still pick up this one and feel like you haven;t missed a single beat.

OMG! What a freaking awesome book! This is the story of Danny, the sheriff in a small Texas town, and a woman who is being assaulted at a rest area. After arresting the man, Danny turns his attention to the woman he saves. It is then he realizes that the woman is someone he knew in high school. As it turns out, Skylar was trying to leave an abusive boyfriend, but her previous attempts failed. This time, however, she is successful due to Danny's intervention. The boyfriend is the son of one of the wealthiest families in Texas. This novel spotlights the difficulty that actual women face everyday when they try to get out of an abusive relationship. The "he said/she said" is only the tip of the iceberg. The author has done amazing research in recreating the many difficulties that abused women face. While Skylar and Danny find their HEA ending, many women do not. Although spotlighting the problems women encounter while in a toxic relationship, this story is so much more. Kidnappings and attempted murder bring this story to a nail-biting climax. Excellent storytelling and a fabulous plot give this book 5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read all of this series but the first book and I need to go back and read Clayton and Abby’s book soon. This is a friend of the family’s hea. Danny the local sheriff and a old flame from high school, Skylar. They had feelings for each other but never acted on them. Skylar left for the big city and never returned. When Skylark need help the most Danny was there to help. Danny knew he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and he also knew his life was about to chance. If Danny can keep Skylar safe they just might have the future they both crave.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. A Cowboy Like You is the fourth book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. It can be read as a stand-alone as I have not read the other books in the series and did not find that I felt I was missing anything. This is a second chance at love story. Sherrif Danny Oldman has never gotten over his high school crush Skylar Long so when a chance meeting allows him to rescue her from her abusive boyfriend he is delighted to find that she too had an unrequited crush on him back in high school. I was a bit disappointed that the characters had several TSTL moments and thought that instead of hopping into a sexual relationship immediately a slow burn would have been more effective. I feel that I must give a content warning for brutal violence as well so I can’t say that this book was one that I would recommend. Medium Steam. While this may be the 4th book in the Heart of Texas series, it can absolutely be read as a stand alone! This one is about Danny Oldman and Skylar Long. Danny is the sheriff of the small town that he and Skylar grew up in. Danny is feeling like he is missing something in his life and after watching his friend find their happiness, he can't help but feeling like an outsider. And it doesn't help that he still thinks about the one girl that he never even dated and wonders what could have been. Skylar never thought she would have to run in the middle of the night, nor that she would end up back in her hometown. But she is desperate and she will do whatever she has to in order to be safe from her crazy boyfriend. But she certainly doesn't expect that the man who saves her will be Danny. Or that the attraction she had to him in high school would still be there. But can they find out what they mean to each other while still keeping Skylar safe from her ex? I absolutely loved this one! There is drama, suspense, along with this sweet, loyal, and protective man. I loved that they got their second chance but that it also brings to light a serious issue and how hard it truly can be for women to get away from someone like her ex. Skylar is this smart, beautiful, and strong woman who went through something that no woman should ever have to go through but she stood up for herself even when she was afraid. And she not only stood up for herself, she stood up for the man she fell in love with as well. I loved them and their story!! And of course I loved the snippets of past characters and hopefully other side characters that need their own stories as well!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. A Cowboy Like You, by Donna Grant, is available at booksellers 11-26-19. As book 4 in the Heart of Texas series, Cowboy in some ways works as a standalone but I think reading the first 3 would give the reader more insight into the dynamics of the characters. The tidbits mentioned of other characters hinted at more backstory but didn't satisfy completely. I understand it's a fine line to walk, not getting too involved in secondary characters, but it didn't hit the mark. Skylar Long is running from her abusive boyfriend. This time she almost got away. He tracks her like a big game hunter, he's awful. He fooled her for a long time before he let the crazy show. She also didn't bother to look past the surface, didn't ask questions I would have right away. For some reason she had started driving towards her old hometown & got lucky that the sheriff was around when Matt caught up to her. Turns out she went to school with the sheriff & he goes way above & beyond to help her. She got lucky, he's got an amazing group of friends to help keep Skylar safe while things work out. She becomes too trusting too fast for me to believe. After everything she's been through why isn't she more closed off & wary? Sheriff Danny Oldman is a workaholic. Married to his job he hasn't had a date or relationship of any kind in years. It's a little hard to believe, not even the waitress at the diner? Anyone? He's given up. Skylar turns out to be his school crush, the one he never got over. It's too pat that they fall into a relationship right away, they knew immediately kind of thing. I liked the characters, want to go back to book 1 and find out more about this tight group of friends. I want to know how it came to be. The story has plenty of drama, action, timely topic, lust, & romance. It just all happens too fast. #DonnaGrant #Netgalley #ACowboyLikeYou #HeartOfTexas #StMartin'sPaperbacks

So good I now have to go read the rest! While I have read many of this author's books, this is the first book in this series that I have read. It was so wonderful that now I am going to go back and pick up the other three books. Danny has loved Skylar since high school, but he never asked her out. When they graduated she took off for the big city instead of staying in their little hometown. Danny is now the Sheriff and he finds Skylar in trouble one night. She is trying to leave her abusive boyfriend but he finds her and tries to attack her and take her back to the city. When the ex is arrested they find out that his family is very rich and is in the oil business. So not only does Skular and Danny have to contend with her ex but also his whole family. Abby and Clayton from the first book of the series takes Skylar into their home. Characters from the other books also help her out in different ways. If you love hot cowboys who will do anything for the women they love and the feeling of family surrounding you as you read, then they out this book! I received an arc copy of this book and am freely giving you my opinion.

He tells himself and anyone who asks that he is married to the his job but the truth is Lone Star Sheriff, Danny Oldman still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She never thought that she would have to flee Houston and return home, but that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Their attraction is more powerful than ever, but Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex is dead set on tearing them apart! This ‘Heart of Texas’ romance is an intense, thrilling read with a sweet heartwarming romance that makes even the Grinch believe in HEAs. The chemistry between these two strong, stand out characters sizzles from every page and the relationship between them is sweet and passionate and full of emotions that makes it easy for the readers to relate to and understand what motivates these characters. The plot is fast paced and full of suspense and excitement that builds throughout the story keeping the readers fixated on what’s happening and their toes bounding on the floor in anticipation. Some twists that come from the couple themselves, some twists that comes from the ex-worm and some twists that comes from the ex-worm’s family keeps everyone on their toes and adds to the excitement while some violence breaks readers hearts and has them calling for the ex-worms head. This entertaining read is full friends, a thrilling conclusion to the bad guy and a holiday ending worthy of the season.

4.5 Stars This book features Danny and Skylar. These two have feelings that go way back to high school but were never acted on. Imagine his surprise when he stops a domestic violence scene and Skylar is the woman. The story is about Danny, a sheriff, protecting Skyler from a wealthy man who thinks if he can’t have her, then no one can. It’s about these two getting a second chance at long buried feelings. The story line is fantastic with great flow. This is a small town romance with awesome characters. These characters are people I’d love to be friends with.

Danny and Skylar’s second chance love story in A Cowboy Like You, book four in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant, was an amazing, and enjoyable tale. Trigger Warning: at the heart of this story is a woman unexpectedly being in and attempting to leave an abusive relationship; it can be graphic. Lone Star sheriff Danny Oldman is still single and tells anyone who asks that it’s because he is married to his job; keeping keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth is, Danny is still pining for his high school crush who left town after graduation. Skylar Long never expected to return to her hometown but finds herself heading there as she fled Houston and her possessive boyfriend; the man of her dreams turned out to be a nightmare of abuse. Seeing Danny again surprises Skylar, realizing that their long-ago attraction is still there and more powerful than ever. Danny’s number one priority is to keep Skylar safe and hidden from her wealthy, powerful ex before this sadistic man finds her and harms her again. Ms. Grant wrote an intense, emotional and exciting romantic suspense that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, suspense, a dysfunctional family, fear, and endearing characters giving Danny and Skylar a chance at love, happiness, and a future neither expected. I highly recommend A Cowboy Like You to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Another great book from Donna! I especially enjoyed all the interaction with the characters from the previous books, Abby, Clayton, Jace, Cooper. I am already looking forward to the next one in the series!
