The mesas and canyons of rural Utah are both beautiful and unforgiving--as unforgiving as the locals in Sharperville, who will never see Jamie Sundstrom as anything other than the no-good daughter of the town drunk. Now, two years after losing her own daughter in a nasty custody battle, Jamie is saving every penny from her job as a backhoe operator for a good lawyer. Her heart is as battered as her rundown car--until a soft-spoken, easy-on-the-eyes cowboy drifts into town...

Cal Cameron is trying to adjust to his new normal, working on his sister's farm after recovering from the rodeo wreck that ended his championship career. At first sight, he can tell that Jamie is is guarded. But as she slowly lets him into her world, he'll do anything to help her get her daughter back--even if it means finally letting go of the man he was and becoming a different kind of hero...

Jamie was the daughter of the town drunk, she’s been labeled no good no matter what she does people don’t seem to accept anything else. Jamie has been saving money to get a lawyer to get her daughter Mandy back. Jamie meets Cal Cameron who has some secrets of his own. But Jamie won’t let anything get in her way to get her daughter Mandy back. It has been two years since the custody battle. Jamie is a backhoe operator at a construction company that was cutting a new interstate highway. Cal had been a rodeo champion but got hurt and that ended his career in the rodeo. Now Cal works on his sister’s farm. Cal would do anything to help Jamie get Mandy back. Jamie only got to see Mandy for half a day on Saturday every other week.. . Jamie is young and has no one to advise her. Then the judge gave Mandy to Ray who immediately gave Mandy to his parents. Jamie went out with a couple of her coworkers for a couple beers at Canyon Rim. Orrin came up to Jamie at the bar and enjoyed the way he was scaring her as he hung on to her arm. I liked this story. I felt so bad that Jamie lost her daughter Mandy but loved her determination to get her back. Also loved the fact that Cal would do anything to help her get Mandy back. It broke my heart even more that she only got to see Mandy half a day every other week. I like the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

This was a wonderfully sweet heartwarming story that I enjoyed very much. Shaperville is a great small town but like most small towns the people living there have long memories and don't easy forget or change their minds. That is what Jamie Sundstrom has to deal with. The daughter of the town drunk, she's been labeled as no good and no matter how hard she tries people don't seem to accept anything else. Jamie has been working hard to save enough money to get a lawyer to help her get her daughter back and she can't let anything get in her way. Not even the very handsome and kind Cal Cameron. This book is a very good read and definitely one I would recommend.
