Overview

Clair Jenkins is a newly widowed mother of three with no money and little food. As she is walking back from town in the snow, Charley Hampton, a cowboy from a neighboring ranch stops to help her. They get lost in the blizzard but finally find their way. The next day Charley brings them food. He asks Clair to marry him and she accepts. Charley's promise to take care of them and protect them from an outlaw named Beecher, turns out to be more than he can do. Clair's former in-laws come west to take the children from her. Charley gets bushwacked on his way to town to mail a letter to his lawyer. When they are away to attend the hearing about custody of the children, someone sets fire to their cabin. Charley swears he is going to hunt Beecher down and kill him. Instead he is captured by the outlaws and Beecher tells Charley in lurid detail what he has planned for his family. Charley has to find a way to escape to protect his family from Beecher and his cronies.

If you have a moment, like waiting in a doc office or even on the bus. Make it more enjoyable by reading this book.

I really didn't care for this book. The story would jump from one 'scene' to the next with no warning, making the story feel 'rushed'. But even more than that, I didn't like the crude, graphic references to two men who are child molesters, one who likes young girls, the other likes little boys. These could have still been included in the story, but done more as a hint, even. While I do know that such evil exists in the real world, the reason I do read as a hobby is for a temporary escape from the evils of this world. If that type of thing doesn't bother you, then you might enjoy the book, but I personally would probably not read any more books by this author.

A good story but too short. This is why i hate short stories. They are too rushed. If this were longer and more fleshed out it would have been much better. As is, it is just too unbelievable.

I would classify this as a western. NOT A ROMANCE. All she does through the whole book is tell him she dosent love him. And when she finally DOES say it shape makes sure to clarrify that its not as much as her first husband. I wouldnt recommend this.
