With a thirst for adventure and a new life, Katie Matthews heads west to Marietta, Montana to reconcile with her estranged sister and prove she's matured. But during her journey, her stagecoach is robbed leaving her destitute and on foot and later framed for theft, which lands her in jail. Not the ideal beginning to prove she's turned over a new leaf.

Scott Taylor hitches horse and wagon to rescue his partner's sister-in-law from jail. But what he's not prepared for is the force of attraction towards this beautiful, fiery woman. When a hard rain sends them ducking for cover, his usual steadfastness is no match for Katie's charm and their mutual passion. Determined to make an honest woman of her, Scott insists they marry.

Scott's devoted his life to being a strong, responsible, hard working cowboy who does the right thing no matter how tough, but when he comes face to face with his ugly past, he fears he'll lose what he's just discovered he can't live without.

About the Author

Award winning author Michelle Beattie was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and raised on her grandfather's homestead near Beaumont, Alberta. She didn't fall in love with reading until after high school and then turned to historical romances, mostly westerns, for her romance fix. If you ask her why westerns, she'll say it's because of the chivalry. Of course men in boots and cowboy hats didn't hurt either!

Because of the cover, I almost didn't read this book. It's cheesy, and the guy is, in my opinion, WAY too thin. I found the overview interesting, so, in spite of my negative reaction to the cover, I downloaded the book, along with several others, when it was free. I finally read it a couple of days ago. I'm glad I did. The premise is good. The pacing is consistent. For those who wish to know these things, there is some mild cursing, and some, relatively, graphic nookie. In my opinion, it is tastefully depicted, and it is not used as a substitute for a good plot. The dialogue is amusing, touching, and realistic. The conversations between the characters flow naturally. The characters have depth, and they are believable. The good guys are appealing. Katie and Scott, the 2 main characters of this book, are, both, trying to overcome their personal self-doubts and demons. Their chemistry is instant, but the story sees them develop a love based on mutual respect and friendship. They make some mistakes along the way, but they learn to believe in themselves as well as in each other. The ending of the story is satisfying logically and emotionally. There is NO cliffhanger. This book, the 2nd in the series, is the story of Katie and Scott. Katie is the younger sister of Jillian, and Jillian is married to a widower named Wade. Scott is their friend and business partner on their ranch in Montana. After Katie and Jillians' mother dies, Katie comes to Montana to reunite with Jillian. Jillian and Wades' story is the 1st book in the series. You can read and appreciate this book without having read it, but, be advised: this book contains lots of spoilers about book one! If you think you may want to read it, too, read it before you read this one. For budget reasons, I try and only buy books I know I will read and reread. I will look up the 1st and 3rd books in this series, but I will look for them at my local library. jillian wade katie scott

Spontaneous, Surprising & Enjoyable! Scott and Katie had me laughing and worrying for them at the same time. I enjoyed Katie's spirit and how she her perception was so different from her sister's on her ride out west.... The trail ride was quite an experience. Scott personality was a bit shocking to people/town, which was a bit odd, but I really enjoyed how Michelle brought them together as a family with her sister Jillian and Wade. It will be interesting to see where this series continues to grow. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A Cowboy's Temptation by Michelle Beattie is book number two in a Frontier Montana series . This is Katie Matthews and Scott Taylor's story. This story takes place during 1884 in the Montana territory. Katie is brave and sets out on a journey to Marietta. She experiences a lot of setbacks and struggles along the way. I admired her mental strength and how she was able to cope. Scott has devoted his life to doing the right thing. He is afraid that he will lose everything that he has worked for if his brutal childhood is discovered. Can Scott overcome this pain? Katie and Scott end up together on this journey to Marietta. There is chemistry between and they develop feelings for each other. Will Scott realize that he deserves a good wife or will he allow his painful past to prevent him from taking a chance at true love? FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was a great historical romance. I loved the story, the characters, the setting, it was all wonderful. Katie is traveling from Pennsylvania to Montana to be with her sister, Jillian. She is determined to prove herself and repair their sisterly relationship. Scott co-owns a ranch with Jillian's husband, and is hiding from his a past that not even his closest friends know. But when sparks fly betweeh Katie and Scott, drama flies right along with it. I loved Katie's strength and courage. I loved the jokes and camaraderie between Scott and the other guys. I really enjoyed reading about frontier Montana. It was like I was right there in the story with them.

I cried while reading and enjoying A Cowboy’s Temptation by Michelle Beattie. Although this is the second book in her Frontier Montana series, it is a standalone story. Anything you need to know from the first book is explained in detail in this one. This is a story of two strangers who need to confront their pasts before being able to move forward to create a life together. After losing control as passion hits while Scott and Katie wait out a rain storm, he is determined to marry her in order to make her an honest women. Katie, with her desire for adventure, is not happy. She’s determined to prove that she has matured as she reconciles with her estranged sister. However, Katie’s adventures on the journey to Marietta include her stagecoach being robbed, left destitute, having to walk five miles, and later framed for a theft that lands her in jail, doesn’t exactly demonstrate the new leaf she turned over. Scott has worked hard to become a strong, responsible, hard working cowboy who always does the right thing. Yet, no matter how tough he might be he fears he will lose everything and everyone if they learn of his past. This was a truly wonderful, fun and entertaining story with very likeable and authentic characters that you want to cheer on, hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. I am truly looking forward to the next entry in this series. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Katie Matthews wants to find meaning and excitement in her life. Now that her parents are gone, she's leaving Philadelphia to reunite with her sister in Marietta, Montana. What she finds changes her life. Katie is a strong woman. I liked her spirit. She finds her true love and her home here. Scott Taylor has worked hard to succeed after a brutal childhood. He's never told anyone what happened but his pain still controls him. I was sorry for what happened to him. I wish that he would follow his heart and trust Katie. Their attraction is instant as is their passion. Their battle of wills and fiery dialogue pulled me into the story. I wanted to know how they would overcome their issues. I enjoyed learning about the early settlers of Marietta. A Cowboy's Temptation is filled with compelling characters, a setting that I love and an emotional journey that renewed my faith in the power of love.

It has been interesting to see frontier Marietta, Montana grow into the contemporary town that it is today. With each story the frontier town which is so different from the modern version has begun to grow on me. A Cowboy's Temptation by Michelle Beattie gives another glimpse into the personalities, lives and loves of those who came to settle there. Scott and Katie’s story is the most exciting of the books so far. About the first fourth of the book, Katie is on her way to Marietta to reunite with her sister, Jillian. This was quite the story seeing how Katie seems to have a knack for running into trouble. Still I like this adventurous woman, still I like the steadiness of Scott. They brought a balance to each other’s life. They are not with the bumps in their journey to finding love, just like the Jillian and Wade. Because of the danger in the beginning and the tenacious of Katie, this is my favorite of the series so far. 4.5 Stars An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
