Overview

Eight soldiers and one tour of duty that will change their lives. When two seasoned specialists are teamed up with six first-time soldiers at Camp Speicher, Iraq, it falls to them to use their experience and wisdom to teach and guide. They hold true to this responsibility, even as the ensuing deployment becomes plagued with bad experiences, accidents, and personal losses. They stand firm as a team with a fast-developing bond. However, when they use the cover of darkness to let off steam partying in a disused bunker on a restricted area of base, they unwittingly unleash a frightening stream of events. A Darkness Realized is a stand-alone novel with heavy doses of military realism combined with paranormal activity and oppression, but it has been left open for an intended sequel.

About the Author

Jessie Grigsby wasn't born a writer; you might say he was forged into one. At the age of eight he found his fascination with stories, raising eyebrows at the local library after he consumed all of the children's section and quickly moved onto Stephen King, John Grisham and Tom Clancy, to name just a few. Once he'd exhausted the town's entire fiction collection, he moved onto the private libraries of family and friends. But it was in the theater of war that the young reader finally discovered his own voice. Serving two deployments in Iraq, Grigsby bore witness to the hell of battle, the courage of brothers in arms, and the lifelong effects of trauma upon the psyche.

A Darkness Realized is Grigsby's debut novel, and has been described as a "stunningly accurate" portrayal of life in a war zone, with paranormal elements drawn from some of Grigsby's earliest and most loved writers.
