A Day in the Life of a Professor by Faye Hicks

Get ready to toss your conventional notion of what it's like to be a professor. We're not all stodgy, boring, gray-haired geeks in lab coats and nerdy glasses. (Okay, so maybe some of us are...) And we don't sit around all day drinking coffee out of beakers. (Okay, well some of us, maybe...) But thanks to our comical students and obsessive colleagues - it's actually pretty interesting, and occasionally quite hilarious, being a professor. So, here's your chance to see the job from the other side of the lectern. You'll meet crazy characters like 'The Ubiquitous Kenny Baker' (he'll stick to you, like gum to the cat); you'll learn what professors mean by the "barf wave" in 'Just a Typical First Year Engineering Exam', and you'll find out why professors actually want you to laugh AT them, not with them. Here are five short stories describing some of my experiences - both strange and comical - to give you a taste of life as a professor. I hope you enjoy it!

It was a cute short story that talks about the everyday life and some funny experiences. A good reminder that work is work.

A quick fun read providing a humorous look at life in academia. Not only does the author candidly share some of her experiences as a female professor in a male-dominated field, but she does so in a lighthearted way that is sure to entertain readers.

I would certainly recommend Defining Moments for your next read. When I have suggested this book to family and friends, I have had difficulty telling them what genre it fits into because of how it is a combination of a number of genres, therefore difficult to slot into one. I think this is part of what I liked so much about this authors first book. Ellie's ability to hit the rewind button in life makes for a very unique story line. Who among us has not wished to do the same? I think it is well written, entertaining, and easy to read. I look forward to more stories from Faye Hicks.
