Overview

A Deadly Justice by Kathy Bennett

She thought the past was put to rest...

Detective Maddie Divine is back and paired-up with fellow detective, Jade Donovan, to solve the brutal murder of a 16 year-old-girl. Why would someone kill an all-American girl? More importantly, has the serial rapist they've been searching for just become a murderer? Could the girl's family of hot-headed brothers have something to hide? Manipulation and deception meet Maddie and Jade at every turn as they question who has the motive to kill.

But now it's back for vengeance.

While Maddie is trying to come to terms with the recent death of her husband, working with the police therapist before the guilt and anger she feels affects her job, Jade is up against a vindictive sergeant who has an ax to grind against her. Twists and turns lead Maddie and Jade down a rabbit hole, intertwining Maddie's past with present. All of these crimes are connected by a single thread, but can they figure it out before Maddie becomes the next victim? Or will her past become a living nightmare?

About the Author

Kathy Bennett is no stranger to murder and mayhem. She served twenty-nine years with the Los Angeles Police Department—eight as a civilian employee and twenty-one years as a sworn police officer. She spent most of her career working patrol, but Kathy was also a firearms instructor, a crime analyst in the “War Room”, a field-training officer, a senior lead officer, and a plainclothes officer for various assignments. She was named Officer of the Year in 1997.

Kathy writes the popular Deadly Thriller Series. Barnes and Noble chose A Deadly Blessing as a Best Book of 2012. Police officers who have read her work praise Kathy for her authentic stories and “getting police work right.”

Her husband is also a retired Los Angeles Police Officer. They have one daughter and two grandchildren. Kathy likes to go hiking with her husband and their two Labrador retrievers—incorporating photography into many of their adventures.

Loved it!  Kathy's first book, "A Dozen Deadly Roses" was fantastic, and "A Deadly Blessing" excellent!  "A Deadly Justice" is as good or better and while they are not a series they do follow some of the wonderfully built characters introduced or developed in earlier.books, I'm about to reread the first two and looking forward to Kathy's next book!

This police procedural starts with quick action and keeps up the tension. Maddie returns to work as a Los Angeles detective after a 6-month leave which resulted from a personal tragedy and starts with a new partner at a new division. Police lingo and attitudes pulled me right into the story of a serial rapist loose in the county. Because I’ve lived in Southern California, I’m familiar with the setting which helped ground the story.  Although several crimes occur and the story is told through multiple points of view, the novel is structured so that following every bit of action is done in a logical way right to its inevitable ending with a twist.

I liked the story and writer's style. You can tell she was a cop because the plot seems real to me. I'll read the rest of her books now.

As usual I am disappointed I have to wait for the next book to come out. There are perfect characters that can be eaisly related to because of their 'real life situations'. From the working mom, to the nosey neighbors there is enough to get you hooked wanting more. Kathy Bennett is great at adding police procedure without giving too much or not enough detail. Her ability to wrap up all the plotlines into a nice neat package is amazing. If you like Wambaugh you will love Kathy Bennett...

Kept you in suspense througout the book because it was a crime story that tied burglaries with a serial rapist. And it got you to thinking which character was the serial rapist. Kathy Bennett is a great writer who keeps your full attention & you don't want to stop reading this book.

Maddie Divine has been through hell and is now back on the street with her new partner Jade Donovan. They've been moved to a new precinct as part of the new chief's reorganization plan and assigned to burglary. There have been a string of burglaries in the upper class neighborhoods, with high end merchandise taken, and they are no closer to being solved than they were right after they occurred. There's also a serial rapist operating. And then there's a murder. Just business as usual for LAPD. Cash McCool is working the homicide and rapes (with the help of a task force). I really liked this book, and the other books written by Kathy Bennett. They keep me on the edge of my seat with plenty of suspense and tension. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

I could not wait to begin reading and once I started, could not put it down! The characters blend together, are realistic, with true emotions and empathy. It is one of those rare novels, where late at night, you tell yourself, 'I'll read just one more chapter'.....and it always turns into, 'well, one more'! Great story, that keeps building with twists and turns. A definite MUST READ!! Barb H., Algonquin, Il
