Overview

A Duke in Shining Armor (Difficult Dukes Series #1) by Loretta Chase

Not all dukes are created equal. Most are upstanding members of Society. And then there’s the trio known as Their Dis-Graces.

Hugh Philemon Ancaster, seventh Duke of Ripley, will never win prizes for virtue. But even he draws the line at running off with his best friend’s bride. All he’s trying to do is recapture the slightly inebriated Lady Olympia Hightower and return her to her intended bridegroom.

For reasons that elude her, bookish, bespectacled Olympia is supposed to marry a gorgeous rake of a duke. The ton is flabbergasted. Her family’s ecstatic. And Olympia? She’s climbing out of a window, bent on a getaway. But tall, dark, and exasperating Ripley is hot on her trail, determined to bring her back to his friend. For once, the world-famous hellion is trying to do the honorable thing.

So why does Olympia have to make it so deliciously difficult for him . . . ?

Runaway bride! Olympia is set to marry Ashmont, but for various reasons, she can't bring herself to do it. When Ash's best friend Ripley, goes to check on her, he sees her jumping out the window and running away. Ripley follows her, intending to bring her back, but is obligated to stay with her to keep her safe. In the few days they have gone place to place, they have spent more time together than she ever spent with Ash. And you know where that leads to! We are kept in suspense as to how they will be able to get/stay together, and for Ripley not to lose his best friend. Loved this book and looking forward to reading about the other dukes!

This unconventional romance is so fun, smart, and well done! The Most Boring Girl, Lady Olympia, is set to marry one of Their Dis-Graces, the Duke of Ashmont, when she starts tippling on the wedding day. She decides to climb out a window and escape. Because the groom is drunk, his friend the Duke of Ripley follows her to try to bring her back. Sometimes told from the opposing viewpoints of the bride-to-be and the friend, the humor is delightful. I couldn't wait to see how the Loretta Chase would tie the story together, and she did so with finesse. One of her best!

Very humourous. A little thinner characterwise compared to some others, but fun and plenty to think about.

I loved it. Though many elements were familiar, they were combined a novel way. Ms Chase did an excellent job and this rates as one of her best. You will enjoy it.

A Duke in Shining Armor is book 1 in the Difficult Dukes series. I knew I had to try this book out when I read the blurb and saw that the leading lady was bookish. Those types of characters in Historical Romances tend to grab me and I wind up amused by their antics. I'm so glad I gave this a go, the story was entertaining and full of things happening in rapid succession. We start off with Lady Olympia Hightower getting a bit anxious right before her wedding. She keeps hitting the booze to calm her nerves and that in turn leads her to escaping out a window with the groomsman, the Duke of Ripley, chasing after her. She's determined to get away and go to her Aunt's estate, and luckily for her Ripley decides to escort her safely there. Feelings start to bloom as they're on their adventure and things are constantly changing as their plans are altered. I was questioning how Ripley's friend would feel being jilted at the alter then finding out his fiancee liked another man though. A Duke in Shining Armor is a highly entertaining Historical Romance you won't get enough of. I really enjoyed Olympia's character, she's strong willed and goes after what she wants. Ripley was a great match for her and you could see their relationship blossom with each page turned. I will say this is kind of a cheating situation though since Olympia runs from her wedding then winds up with another man before the relationship is called off. Some readers might not enjoy that, though it didn't really bother me much like it normally would in this book. All in all, this was a great read and I'd recommend it for people that enjoy fast paced adventures in their Historical Romances.
