A Family to Call Ours by Merrillee Whren

Learning to Trust

Young widow Tara Madsen has spent the last two years dealing with her eight-year-old daughter's battle with cancer. Now a new job means the opportunity to give Hailey the best Christmas ever, but the arrival of Caleb Fitzpatrick, her employers' son, and overreaching authorities put that goal in jeopardy.

Caleb returns to his small Massachusetts hometown with one mission-to make sure another charlatan doesn't take advantage of his parents and their generosity. When he meets Tara, the new receptionist at the family business, he is immediately on guard. A pretty blonde fooled him once before, and he will make sure it doesn't happen again.

Will Tara's sincere and giving nature soften Caleb's heart and help him learn to trust and love again?

The young widow, Tara, has faced many difficulties in her life including her young daughter's cancer. Caleb has been disappointed by a past romance and doesn't want to trust anyone now. Tara's daughter wants a daddy and works as matchmaker. You will enjoy this tender story of Tara and Caleb as well as Hailey as they come together as a family. I recommend this contemporary story to others. I received an e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.

A Family To Call Ours is Marrillee Whren’s third book in the Front Porch Promises series. It will stand alone or is good read in the series. I really liked Caleb and Tara’s story as they learn to live in the present and not in the past. The book deals with letting go, betrayal and forgiveness. Little Hailey, Tara’s daughter, and the puppy Sadie add sweet flavor to the read. It is a good, clean story of two people searching to be loved and to love. I’ve read it twice and highly recommend this five star book to anyone who is looking for a good book. I received a complimentary copy of this book for review from the author. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

A Family to Call Ours is a great addition to the Front Porch Promises series. Just like the two prior books in the series, this novel can stand alone for those who have not read the entire series. I really enjoyed this contemporary Christian tale. Tara and Caleb were very likable. They both carried hurts from the past that made them hesitant to fully trust their hearts. Hailey, Tara’s daughter, was an important part of this book, as well. Her character was very realistic and added to the warm feeling in the novel. A Family to Call Ours highlighted the importance of forgiveness and of letting go of anger. The emotional journeys that both Caleb and Tara took throughout the story were insightful and the romance woven through the pages was sweet. (4.5 stars) I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinons are my own.

I have to say that I think this was my favorite story in this series! The whole story line was very realistic, as were the characters. Tara and her daughter, Hailey were in the previous book but this book is certainly a stand alone if you haven't read any of the other books in this series. Tara is a young widow with a daughter who has gone through cancer. Going through the death of her husband and then dealing with cancer in her young daughter has to have tested Tara's faith and strength. She is remarkably resilient because of good friends and the faith that her grandparents raised her with. She finally has a job, working as a receptionist and gets along with her bosses and feels she is starting to get her life back together. Then, one morning, her bosses' son, Caleb, walks in (he's been in Florida working with a client for about a year) and is immediately suspicious of her because the business has never had a receptionist before! Tara and Caleb get off on the wrong foot but then they are constantly put together on various fundraising committees by well-meaning matchmakers! Caleb has sworn off women because of a betrayal by his last girlfriend and he doesn't appreciate his mother constantly putting him together with Tara. I really enjoyed Caleb hitting it off with Hailey though. Caleb loves children and he falls in love with that little girl. Pretty soon puppies are involves and what is better than that? There is so much heart in this book! There's also a lot about forgiveness and second chances with people in our lives. I don't want to give any spoilers out! I really, really enjoyed all the messages that came out of reading this book. I would highly recommend it. It's definitely a "feel good" story! Although I was given a copy of this book by the author, I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions I have expressed are my own.

I loved this story by Merrillee Whren. This is Book 3 of the Front Porch Promises series, but you can read this one without having read the others. Tara Madsen is a widow with a young daughter Hailey who is fighting cancer. Caleb Fitzpatrick comes back to town to find his parents have hired Tara as their receptionist. Is she really who she seems, or does she have ulterior motives? Have his parents trusted the wrong person again? Caleb is still reeling from the actions of his ex, the last person his parents tried to help. Is Tara just like her or can she be trusted? Tara had fallen in love at a young age, but since he’d died and left her with debt, she couldn’t trust another man to fall in love with. Plus she has a daughter to watch out for now, better than her parents had cared for her. They’d left her at her grandparents and she hadn’t seen them since. She wouldn’t do the same to her daughter. Can Caleb and Tara learn to lean on God and not worry? In the midst of someone accusing Tara of not being a good mother and Tara’s mother coming back to see her, can Tara trust Caleb? Can Caleb trust Tara not to leave with his heart? What must he do to convince her of his love for her and her daughter? I recommend this story to anyone who loves a great inspirational romance. I enjoyed the characters and their stories. It’s hard to trust God when things aren’t going well. But as Tara and Caleb find out, trusting Him in the hard times brings peace in the midst of trouble. I received a free copy in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

After her young daughter’s cancer scare, widow Tara Madsen has been given the opportunity to start over with a new job in a new city. Things were going smoothly until she meets Caleb Fitzpatrick, her employers’ cynical son. Having seen his parents burnt business wise and financial wise, he’s leery to give the new receptionist a fair chance. Will they both be able to see past the hurts caused by other people in order to have a future together? I really enjoyed this third installment of the Front Porch Promises series. It reads fine as a standalone, but I loved getting brief glimpses of characters from the previous books. This one pulled at my heart strings with young Hailey—Tara’s daughter—battle with cancer two years prior. It’s hard to see any young child suffer through a major health scare and not knowing how the future will play out. She’s a delightful girl, full of life & laughter and brings so much depth to the story! You can’t help but fall in love with her precarious nature. I also sympathized with both Caleb and Tara as they worked through difficult past relationships & hurt that broke their trust. It made it almost impossible for them to want to love again. But I loved how they both relied on God to help guide them in everything they did. Their faith played a major role and it was very refreshing for me to read. This is one of my favorite lines in the book from Tara, “Trusting God through the bad times wasn’t easy. For too many years, she had resisted letting God have a place in her life. Now she understood her grandparent’s faith so much more”. Bad or difficult times come, and this helped remind me that I have a God who cares for me in the midst of all those times, what a refreshing reminder! This is one reason I love reading stories by this author, how she allows her faith to shine through! A delightful story about second chances, forgiveness, broken lives put back together & clinging to ones faith in the middle of difficult times. *I received a complimentary copy of this from the author. I wasn’t required to leave a positive review & all opinions expressed here are strictly my own.*
