The story revolves around Sev, a young, handsome prince and member of a royal family who rises to become king of the Oceanan race. Sev is raised in the midst of a vicious family feud, but all seems worth it when his adoptive aunt gives birth to a beautiful little girl whom Sev falls instantly and irrevocably in love with. But when Sev's planet collides with its own sun and collapses, he must bear the loss of his entire family, including his love as well as any memory of her.
Areo, the heroine of the story, is that little girl that Sev fell for during his childhood. She is a human-feline hybrid who has grown to hate the royal family that her soul mate hails from. She undergoes a destructive event and space travel episode similar to Sev's, and it is not too long before she has settled her new planet and with her fellow half-bloods, created a strong, thriving society. When she is brutally attacked by Daehog, everyone in her empire is scattered throughout the universe. Where does she land but the planet that Sev is currently occupying.
What follows is a continually building conflict interlaced with one of the most fervently passionate love stories seen in these kinds of novels. Kong chooses not just to write about space travel, or war, or love, or family, or even racism; instead, she chooses to combine all of these classic literary themes into one amazing story. The result is a mysterious and ultimately deeply satisfying story that only leads to the craving for more from this gifted and astoundingly creative writer.
Reading should always be enjoyable, especially when reading escapist literature, and Kong has remembered this and accomplished it without sacrificing plot or characterization. The task of any science fiction writer is to take alien, unbelievable concepts and present them in a way that convinces the reader they are plausible in reality, and Kong has certainly hit the mark with her second novel in this delightfully mystifying series.

This book is a reminder of how exhilarating fantasy can be: like A Lost Kitten, it opens up a hidden world which is populated with an amazing cast of characters. It's a daring, fresh, rich and brilliant world which Jessica Kong has created. Believe the hype! I was totally gripped by A Forgotten Kitten If you buy only one fantasy/ science- fiction book this year, make it the one! Highly recommended.
A Forgotten Kitten is about how truelove can overcome barriers of race, religion, and politics. Even a mental barrier does not stand a chance when it comes to the heart and soul recognizing its other half. Sev has been in love with Areo since her birth. However, after the destruction of his homeworld, Sev’s memories have been altered and his love forgotten. Now it is up to Areo to remind Sev of what his heart has NOT forgotten.
A riveting read from start to finish! Jessica Kong has created a magical story, uniquely combining the genres of the romance novel and the science-fiction novel. This combination creates a synergy of story-telling power that mesmerizes from start to finish. I found this novel hard to put down and, in fact, finished the 290 pages in two days. The magical romance between Sev and Areo reads like any great love story: It is a relationship of destiny, meant to be, in spite of all the obstacles. As Jessica Kong says about her writing – it is “Proof that true love conquers all.” The magic is the love mixture in the context of a royal family, where bitter family rivalries seem ready to doom the relationship of Prince Sev and heroine Areo. As they both battle the prejudices of their respective families to maintain their passionate love, one thinks of Romeo and Juliet, and the deadly antagonism of their families. Add to this rich mixture the fact that Areo is a “human-feline hybrid! In fact, Sev and Areo are “Seacats” – both feline warriors battling for the survival of their respective races. Then there is the villainy of the evil “Daehog,” and the incredible interlocking themes of war, politics, religion, race/interspecies relationships, and space travel! A very enjoyable read, highly recommended Bottom line: “A Forgotten Kitten” is plain old good STORYTELLING! It is about how Love transcends memory, and the HUMAN HEART is FOREVER. I can almost hear Celine Dion singing these lines from the great song in the movie, “Titanic” – “My Heart Will Go On”: Love can touch us one time And last for a lifetime And never let go 'til We’re gone. Raymond Keen – author of “Love Poems for Cannibals”
Although an excellent title, calling her book ‘A Forgotten Kitten’ is perhaps a little ironic as Jessica Kong’s second book in her Sea-anan chronicles is anything but forgettable and her feline characters are in no way immature. In some ways this is a conventional love story depicting the developing relationship of Sev and Areo battling the prejudices of their respective families. But the convention is broken as Sev and Areo are Seacats, feline warriors battling in space for the survival of their respective races. The story is skilfully crafted and well told with liberal and detailed sensual and erotic descriptions. A recommended read for followers of either romance or sci-fi and a must read for followers of both
"If only they could see beyond their features, beyond their race, they would find that we all have similar needs and desires and feel the same emotions." This well written book is sophisticated and yet simple at the same time. The language is clear and articulates well. As a reader it was easy to fall back into the ebb and flow of this clever story. I love the language and the crisp emotion that is conveyed throughout. We are pulled into another world with ease. This emotional saga has heart and humanity. I read with great anticipation wanting to know what would become of these creatures. The author creates an entirely new world and does it so naturally. She has a great gift of telling a creative story that has not been told before and does it in an entertaining adventurous way. I was thoroughly captivated! Who knew felines could be this sexy? "Sev loved to possess her. If he had ever felt happier or more at ease than when he was with her, he could not recall it. Perhaps he would feel differently if he could remember his life before boarding the Emerald Tiger. But, alas, those memories were lost to him. For now, in his dream lover's arms was where Sev longed to be. It was a place he never wanted to leave when the night ended. And letting her go each morning was getting harder."
