A Fortunate Blizzard, L.C. Chase Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre:  Romance, LBGTQIA. I’ve enjoyed a few novels from L.C.Chase before so know I enjoy her writing style and this one sounded interesting. Its an unusual scenario with Trevor facing end stage kidney disease. Making a romance with someone terminally ill is tough, but LC does it and doesn’t go the obvious route either. Its touched on, but would have been just too cheesy, too unbelievable if that had worked out , so I’m glad she chose a different solution. That made the story better too because it drew in how Marc had been living, how he’d been letting his past issues with his mother dominate his life, and brought forward some other characters into the story. As Trevor says – and of course means – Life is for Living. When I was diagnosed with cancer, and told the outlook wasn’t good it made me think.  I saw and talked to other patients  for whom that phrase took on a new meaning, and it made me too look to what my priorities were in life. 20 years on I’ve relaxed a bit but still keep in mind how short life can be.  Its so easy to do as Marc was, work all hours, promising that “one day “ we’ll have time to do XYZ. That time isn’t always there, each hour, each day, each week that passes can’t be got back and given a do over, and so many discover like Trevor that the time they thought they still had could be severely reduced. The story is  a beautiful and  tender romance, and so realistic. Trevor is in a place so many others are ( and as an AB neg blood group I hope I’m never in his type of need) and meeting Marc seemed like a cruel twist of fate at first. Slowly though things fall into place, and even though we’re dealing with a sad issue there’s moments of lightness in it, snippets of beauty and a real feeling of satisfaction when I reached the ending. Its not a long read at 175 pages but one to savour and enjoy.   Stars: five, a great read, and a tender romance. I would give A Fortunate Blizzard 10 STARS if I could! This is an exceptionally well-written and emotional story that had tears rolling down my cheeks more than a few times. My heart went out to both Trevor and Marc, two men that may never have met if not for a series of events that stranded them both in the same hotel on the night before Christmas Eve. Lust at first sight is a given but as they share a meal and conversation in the over-crowded hotel lounge, a genuine liking for each other begins to develop between them. The blizzard has stranded hundreds of holiday travelers and all of the rooms at the hotel are taken so Trevor accepts Marc's invitation to spend the night with him in his room. They both agree that they will go their separate ways in the morning but when morning comes, Marc just doesn't have the heart to leave Trevor to spend Christmas alone in a hotel lobby. He is no stranger to loneliness himself and for the first time in years he realizes that he doesn't want to be alone at Christmas either, that his assistant and friend, Kate may have been right when she'd told him that there was more to life than work. Against his better judgement, Trevor accepts Marc's invitation to spend the holiday with him at his home. He already likes Marc more than he should and he curses the fates that have brought this wonderful man into his life now that his life is approaching it's end. He tries to make the best of the situation though, to live in the moment and to enjoy this man and their time together but when Marc pleads with him to stay, he is forced to reveal the details of his failing health. Marc refuses to accept this painful truth and vows to do whatever it takes to save the man that he has come to love so quickly. But it will take nothing short of a miracle to give each of these men a new lease on life. I loved everything about this story! Visually and emotionally descriptive,it pulled me right in and kept me holding my breath, as emotionally invested in how things were going to work out for these men as they were themselves.

I don't even know where to begin. Trevor's decision whether or not to continue dialysis is not an easy choice. I have no experience with dialysis, however, I do have lots of experience with hospitals and illness being the center of one's existence and it is tiring, so I completely understand Trevor's desire for it to end on his own terms, or at least the best he can do. Marc is the quintessential workaholic but once the two meet, suddenly not everything is as cut and dry as it was hours before. Watching Marc's heart open up is breathtaking. Maybe on the surface Marc is the holiday cliche that has been done to death in Hollywood but what LC Chase gives us is so much better than your typical holiday fare. When I reached the last page, I didn't want to let this duo go which in my personal dictionary is the ultimate definition of a great read.

So it’s no secret, I love Chase books, and when one brings me to tears with the first paragraph. Well, I know it’s best read while I’m alone with a cup of tea and fresh box of tissues. So 11PM Sunday night curled up in a comfy chair, I begin, again. Almost 1AM, I’m crying, tea long gone and book with it’s HEA complete. And I of course have to be up early Monday morning for work, sigh. We start the tale with Trevor, getting the news he’s been expecting but never welcome. Few days before Christmas he now knows this will be his last unless a miracle happens. So getting home to his family across the country is the most important thing right now. Marc, a lawyer is also stuck in the snow, he’s on the other hand is simply because he has nowhere else to go and no one to go home to. Have given up his dreams and then his family years ago. I love how this time the love interest and the one pushing that interest is not the one you’d expect. How I’ll never give up on you, is so true through out this tale. And of course, even though its after Christmas we do get our miracle. I was given a copy of this in exchange for an honest review by Crystals Many reviews

Oh, where to start… A Fortunate Blizzard is a heartwarming holiday story filled with love, angst and possibilities. I love that this is between two older guys secure in their sexuality. Trevor is an artist who has just been given horrible news by his doctor. Marcus is a workaholic lawyer trying to impress his mother who rejected him because he was artistic and gay. These two are stranded together because of a blizzard and the chemistry is instant and combustible. But Trevor is dying and Marcus is going for partner in the firm neither can do long term. Maybe it is time for a Christmas miracle. A Fortunate Blizzard is everything you could want in a Christmas love story and I loved it.
