Overview

After a night of studying at the Kings College Library, freshman Alexander Hamilton finds a visitor waiting for him on the steps of his residence hall. It's his best friend, Hercules Mulligan, who just overheard a plot by British secret agents to assassinate leaders of the Sons of Liberty. What follows is an adventurous quest that takes Alex and Hercules to Boston where redcoat soldiers have taken control of the city. Along the way they meet American patriots like John and Abigail Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, and Samuel Adams. Alex and Hercules get caught up in the revolutionary spirit as they join in the fight for liberty! This chapter book is a perfect way for the young reader to learn about the American Revolution through a fun and exciting story. A Friend of America is best used in the middle school social studies classroom and comes with an accompanying learning guide with over thirty lesson plans and activities.

About the Author

Brian Schmit is the author of "Aide-de-Camp; The Adventures of Alex Hamilton" a novel of historical fiction, and "A Friend of America" a chapter book used primarily in middle school American history classrooms. Both books are published under Brian's own publishing company, Yankee Doodle Press. Brian has a degree in American History from the University of Minnesota, along with a certification in secondary education from Augsburg College. Brian has taught history and coached track and field at the middle school, high school, and collegiate level for more than twenty years.
